First of all I'm sick of the Bowflex commercial about the 49 year-old man with rock hard abs. I myself am middle age and my friend who is 52 and a former Mr. Indiana body builder and still competes and WINS contests doesn't believe the hype.
So, whom among us believes that a man or woman, without being genectically predisposed, can achieve the results claimed by Bowflex. If not, who believes that an individual can, after years of abuse, neglect and general deprivation turn back time and get a body that is "beach-worthy"? I'm not talking about the ballsy, out-of-shape ****** who struts up and down the beach not caring what they look like.
I look forward to your comments. And if you would, please be specific about "how" in your answer, if in fact you are a believer. Not just..."proper diet, exercise,etc..) Thanks!

Patience is first... Unfortunately for us who are out of shape. If you eat right alone, you will NOT lose much weight or get into much of shape. If you excersize regularly alone, you might even gain some weight if you aren't eating right. On all the diet or excersize commercials, notice how they say along with propar diet and excersize or along with proper diet or along with pexcersize. In order to have a "beach-worthy" body, diet and excersize is the only way if you want t be healthy, or you could starve yourself or take some diet pill and get out of shape and fat faster than you got fit. Patience is key to the perfect body. Nutrasystem works quite well if you excersize every morning. Kathy Ireland is a good excersize program to start out with. Good luck. I'm sure you'll have your "beach-worthy" body soon.

An older man in his 50s is capable of achieving a more defined structure but it'll require much harder work than in years past.

What many people fail to realize is how the manufaturers who advertise their fitness products omit a very crucial peice of information. That information is simply....nobody will achieve a rock hard body without cardiovascular exercises and proper diet. They know this and that is would they do not want to disclose this info or they wouldn't be able to sell their product.

Most manufacturers hire professional athletes and fitness experts to advertise their products. None of these people on the infomercial acheived their physique by only using their machine, if they use their machine at all. Some of these machines and other fitness products are decent to good enough to assist with fitness goals, but no way in hell will they acheive that hard rock phsyique with it. Some manufacturers are actually kind enough to provide this info in small print during the infomercial with something such as..."these goals were acheived with a strict diet and cardiovascular exercise closely observed by a certified trainer". Watch for them in the next fitness equipment infomercial.

As for the Bowflex, it's a decent piece of equipment since it offers resistant. Any equipment offering resistance will provide some benefit, even if it's minor. But the equipment itself is less than reliable, IMO. The bendable rods have to be frequently replaced (depneding on amount of use) and the cost is high. I would never pay for a Bowflex but would take one given to me, then toss it when it's time to replace the rods.

The bottom line is simple, NOBODY will acheive a hard body physique with a resistance machine or even just using weights without cardio exercise. Using resistance equipment BENEFITS the goal to be reached. Cardio and diet are the only methods required to lose fat and tone.

I did it at 51 without a bowflex. I gained from a unhealthy 150 to a cool 190 in 2 months by using androgel and doing a workout every day, nothing crazy, just did them right and took meal replacement shakes and power bars.
No big secret to how that guy on tv changed his metabolism back to a body of an 18 yyr old. It is called testosterone therapy and it kicks the *** of any time I tried to workout and gain before.

Isn't there a disclaimer on that Bowflex commercial in teeny weeny letters that says "results aren't typical"?

The only way you would achieve those results would be through diet, exercise & bowflex .... and it would have to be very rigid and controlled and most probably with a personal trainer. Oh & likely a little surgery to remove all that loose skin.

No, of course it's not possible. There are suckers born every minute who will fall for anything and buy into such nonsense.
