I have been to Bangkok and there are thousands of taxis. Any idea of the official number?

I think the official figure is between 20,000 and 25,000. Considering the flag down fare has not increased in about 10 years I don't see how anyone of these taxi drivers can make a living.
Then of course there are the tuk tuks and the miotorcycle taxis - in total a lot.

Quite a fair bit! Seems like there are new cab companies and I see more colors on the roads these days.

according to Bangkok Traffic Bureau about 7,000 are registered but they have another 2,000 illegal

They have more than enough until it rains really really hard and then they don't have enough..

but I don't think thats official
