I have the desire to lose the weight I've gained with this ridiculous disease, but my doctor tells me it's not going to happen. It seems that his information is correct.....I've been a gym rat since last September, I eat healthy, I have completely given up alcohol, caffeine, etc......Has anyone had this same problem and if so, how did you resolve it?

Um.....Gingko I believe it was, I don't think what I'm eating has anything to do with my diagnosis.....thanks for your tip, but maybe you should research the disease PCOS a little more. I'm looking to find answers from people who actually have PCOS and suffer from the same problem........

I know someone who has the syndrome..
She also has problems losing weight although she definately tries very hard to keep in shape....she was recently put on metformin and it is helping, not only with weightloss but also with the hair problem that comes along with pcos....
Unfortunately, many family doctors are not really educated with pcos...I would recommend that you see and endocrinologist. They are very familiar and will be able to help to a certain degree..
Your doctor should not have told you that you can't lose weight...YOU CAN...You just need the proper assistance..
Don't give up.
things you should stay away from....simple carbs....they are a killer...stick with a protein based diet and try to get the metformin...it's preforming miracles on my friend..
I wish you much luck in your quest to manage this cruel syndrome.

I have the same thing.
My doctor did not tell me that it was not going to happen, but he did say that it would be hard.
I am going through the same thing you are. I have been going to the gym everyday, sometimes twice a day. I eat right and still cannot loose any weight. I have stopped going to the gym as much. I only go 3 times a week now. I also got a trainer- he taught me great stuff, but that still did not help with the weight loss. It is very depressing and quite often I just want to give up... but don't. Sorry I can't help you with resolving it.

Your doctor is partly correct in that it is VERY difficult to lose weight when you have been diagnosed with PCOS. However, it can be done and he should not have discouraged you. A few things you could consider is seeing an Endocrinologist, meeting with a doctor within a Bariatrics Center in a major hospital, or seeing a Nutritionist. Here are a few web sites to get you started. The first one, in particular, should be very helpful.
Good luck, and cheers to you for your motivation!

my 22 yr old daughter has pcos as well, and she has gained weight from that and probably from from being away at college (love that freshmen 15). She has lost some weight, it has been difficult she/we do kickboxing 3x's a week and she's always been a big h20 drinker.... her main problem is carbs....she loves her breads and pastas.....her ob/gyn has put her on this new formula of bc pill that eases the symptoms and that has also helped w/the wt gain..... also, my daughter has pckd(kidney's) so there are other issues going on there.... i do not believe that one is related to the other thou.....
so my advice to you is keep up with what your doing, eat right, drink water stay away from the bad stuff (alcohol, caffenine, fat etc) do something cardio at least 2x's a week and find another dr, someone willing to explain this condition to you in full and help you with your issues..... there are alot of new developments out there to help young women and no need to suffer physically or emotionally bc of pcos....
good luck

Well maybe if he has you on a drug for it that causes you to be fat. But you can be thin and without PCOS. The bad news is that you cannot be an innocent victim of PCOS anymore. Your diet created it, just like your weight problem. Home page tells you what to eat to cure both problems.
Page below explains the connection between diet and menstruation which is when you get PCOS. You cannot get it before or after menstruation.
