If you are refering to the directx update from microsoft, just click the "custom" button when using Microsoft update. You will see it as one of your options.

1. Go to www.filehippo.com
2. Type in DirectX in the Search box you can see on the top right of the page and click Search. DirectX 9.0c (Feb 07) comes up top in the list.
3. Click on 'Download Latest Version' to download the file on your Desktop. It's a big file, 44.15MB.
4. After the setup file has been dowloaded to your computer, Install DirectX by double-clicking on that file. There is no need to uninstall any previous version of DirectX, as it will be overwritten by the new version.

As a piece of advice it might be good to create a new restore point just in case something goes wrong. I believe the installation file will ask you for that anyway.

Finally, after the installation is complete, run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (using dxdiag in the Start/Run... box) to see if the installation was succesful.
