Last week I noticed my 7 month old kitten limping. I thought she just took a bad jump, she's very active, so I let it go a few days. She seemed to favor one leg, then the other. I took her to the vet and he said she has luxating patellas (her knees pop out of place) and she was probably born predisposed to it genetically. He gave her a cortisone shot to bring down the inflammation. It didn't work. So, I'm taking her for xrays in two days. The vet had said that with this condition they can either give pain killers/NSAIDS, which can cause kidney problems in cats, or do surgery, which has mixed results. Does anyone know anything about this condition or have experience with it? Would the surgery be the best option now? I just want her to be able to run and jump like she used to, she's so young.

Thanks for the answers. I just took her to a different vet who does orthopedics and he said that the right knee is pretty bad and should probably have the operation. We scheduled the operation for Thursday. Wish JJ good luck!

I would go with the surgury and hope for the best, it either will work or it wont. Anything is better then shoving a pill down a kittens throat, best of luck!

My Siamese was 4 when he was diagnosed with a luxating patella. He didn't seem to be in too much pain when I would massage his knee, but I took him in to see what was causing it. It turns out he's slightly bow legged on his left hind leg and that is causing his knee to pop out. About a week after he saw the vet, he was fine. Just be wary that with surgery, like humans, cats can get arthritis later in life. Good luck to you!

My dog has that he is a 4 year old min pin. We noticed that when he was younger as well and the vet told us the same thing you where told. As he has gotten older he has had no problems with it but he is a fat dog and so active either lol. Id say talk to different vets in your area and see what they recommend sometimes different vets do different things so check around and see what they say.

i don't have any experenice with it but i think u should do the surgery because if the pain killers really does cause kidey problems then later in her life she could die from kidey failer and also with pain killers they only get rid of the pain for a short time

i think u should go alone with the surgery .because most of the times they say put them to sleep . and if you have love for your baby you want do that and will do what ever it takes to help her .good luck!!!
