I have COMPAQ presario V2000 series laptop - RAM is 256 MB & HD is 40GB. Some time my computer shows VIRTUAL MEMORY LOW. So for that i want to increase my RAM capacity. There is any other alternate solution?

INCREASE THE SIZE OF YOUR PAGING FILE.
RIGHT CLICK MY COMPUTER. GO TO ADVANCED>PERFORMANCE>[SETTINGS]> ADVANCED > UNDER VIRTUAL MEMORY CLICK ON CHANGE.THE VALUE MAY BE 753 MB. CHANGE IT TO 1 GB. THE NEW RAM CHIPS MAY COST UPTO 2000 BUCKS FOR A 256 MB CHIP FOR A GOOD QUALITY CHIP.

Virtual memory has nothing to do with your RAM. Your hard drive is filling up. Delete some of the junk and you will see the warning stop.

well yes or no for this u have to make sure how much room of memory the laptop can handle also make sure its the right ram because if you were able to buy a different set if would run not as good as u hope it would also call toshiba to make sure u can upgrade and not to avoid there warranty

Go to www.memorygiant.com and www.crucial.com and let them scan and tell you what RAM you can use. I usually find memorygiant to be a little cheaper. Increasing RAM will improve performance more than increasing the paging file.
