Even better, why debate? Many of us are wasting a great oppurtunity to learn about and understand people of other beliefs. If we learn about each other, the ignorance is gone. Ignorance is the foundation for the hatred and intolerance. Yet for some reason some people cling to ignorance about others as if understanding people would kill them. However there are other people who do want to learn. I am one. You are too. There are others. We can often just ignore the nonsenses arguments and help each other learn. Meanwhile foolish people will continue wasting time and energy on senseless fighting. We can learn from that too. Some people can teach you what not to do.

the trouble with holy books they are written in ambiguous language, with bad grammar and in sound bites instead of continuous comprehensible prose. this means that they are open to an almost infinite range of interpretations. another problem is that mistakes in translation are often claimed to be divinely inspired. in one holy text in particular interpretation is supposed to destroy its validity, the problem being that full knowledge of the original dialect is incomplete and certain words and grammatical constructions cannot be translated or even understood fully. study as much as you want everyone will come away with a different understanding. as far as i know there are no holy texts that are 100% unequivocal, though some are lucid in parts.

people are stubborn creatures, we all are set in our belief that our religion is the right one, therefore no need to study others, personally though, I'm halfway in agreement with you, it shouldn't be a requirement, but to look at a multitude of religions, including ones that differ dramatically from your own can really help you become a more tolerant person. personally, I'm a christian who prefers CMA Churches (christian missionary alliance) this is what works for me, but what works for one of my roommates is a form of paganism, instead of looking down on him and trying to convert him like other Christians would do, I shrug my shoulders knowing that's what he feels comfortable with, no use forcing anything on anybody, but the same goes for learning, you can't force someone to learn about other religions, it's a good theory on paper, but like many others it has some flaws to be worked out (BTW, many colleges require a base class of math and science, we all know this, but many as well require an exploration of religion class to graduate, so you're on the right track)

Man! what a great idea! I think you forget that most have gone to government schools, and don't have the faintest idea how to think or debate. Do you know why people quarrel so much? It is because they don't know how to argue! I would love to address an intelligent question. Sometimes it is hard to know who is serious, and often an intelligent question is not offered.

I don't see a whole lot of fighting between people of faith at Y/A. Some, yes, but not much. I see a lot of fighting between believers (of different faiths) and those who think all believers are ignorant, who name all religion myth, and whose purpose appears to be to engender anger and hatred. It's about pushing buttons, being in control. Whatever your faith, pray for those who have none.

They don't care. They ask the same questions over and over again under different IDs even when given the right answers. Let them go down their path to hell. Frankly, I don't care where they end up. They want to stay blind, let them. The more they try to bully us, the more they push us toward strength in our religion, and if they're not careful, some who are loopty loops might fall off into the extremist edge. They need to realize that it's their attitude and behavior that creates that. Of course, they feel they have a right to dictate to others how to live and what to think, so, again, I don't care where they end up.

There are too many conflicts/contradictions.
Such as God telling kids to be obedient to parents in the lord, for this is right.
Then Jesus, disobeys his, stays behind, to preach to people, causing his parents grief. Although for a good purpose, he disobeyed God's law, which isn't a good example to be setting when you are trying to recruit followers for your own laws.

why don't they? heck, who knows the answer to that one?
of course, that makes LOGICAL SENSE, in terms of debating, yet i think most of these Y/A "debaters" don't really comprehend what a real debate is. the majority of the answers are either stupid wise-cracks or pointless opinion.
