You must be more specific about your question..Today the latest development in the field of Aircraft is "VERTICAL LANDING"

Vertical Landing :
Its nothing but taking off and landing a plane vertically with out running in a runway to gain a velocity of flight, just like an Helicopter. Time being its just tested in Fighter jets and are trying to implement in Commercial Jets also...NMN

The latest development in commercial aircraft is use of composite materials in construction to eliminate weight and corrosion. Composits like carbon epoxy are used to replace heavier aluminum in fuselage construction. The Boeing 787 will be the first airliner flying to be made mostly from composits and the first to be designed for point to point operations. Boeing is gambling (and it's a good one) that people are tired of having to go through a big hub airport like Dallas or Atlanta but instead will prefer more direct flights to their destination.

the latest development would be the f-22 f-35 and the kc-767 all designed by the air force. the latest design for commercial airline would be the airbus. Boeing is also trying to modify the 777 to fly more efficiently by changing the engines.

You have to be very specific about the type of aircraft you are talking about. Is it a commercial aircraft or an aircraft used during war? Again development in which sphere.. avionics, firepower, logistics, speed etc.?

Unless the information is available there cannot be an opinion.
