I work overnight two times a week. I am currently on a diet at the moment and I would like to know what are some good foods I can snack on without gaining weight. I have been drinking water and eating fruit cups.

Eat a normal meal before going to work. Take fruit, yogurt, granola or cereal (energy foods) and eat them on your breaks and lunch (another good idea is having a plain chocolate bar during lunch, but not after, this, honestly, will boost your energy through the rest of the night and you will burn off the calories). Do not eat before going to bed, that'll get you in the thighs and butt for sure. Drink Gatorade or water through the night, another good idea being cranberry juice and water mixed (avoid caffiene and soda, especially diet soda, it makes you hungry). Hope this helps you out.

Generally, if what you're doing now is working for you, there shouldn't be any reason to change it. That being said, make sure you don't fall into the trap of not eating. Not eating for an extended period of time will cause you more harm than good.

My suggestion would be (assuming you have a full 8-hour shift overnight) to plan on eating 3 smaller-portioned meals, once every 2.5-3 hours. Each meal should be around 300 calories. Protein bars are excellent for this type of "meal replacement," and can be thrown into your pocket before you leave for work.

Eating on that type of schedule should allow your blood sugar to stay relatively constant, while fighting any cravings you may have, and not sabotaging the work you've put in so far.

Good luck!

mommy aways said it was not what you eat but how much you eat of it.

Since you only work over nights two nights a week try just light while you are working.

If you know you will right to sleep when you get off from work time it to were you dont eat two or three hours before you go to sleep. That will help and be a good thing..

Remember lots and lots of water. and just cause you work nights does not mean you have to not eat or really change that much about what you eat. just a little in what time you eat.

Good Luck.

Try to eat a lot of complex carbs such as pasta or bread because that'll keep you full and provide you with energy. Avoid high sugar foods because they're unhealthy anyways and all that excess sugar gets turned into fat. Try to eat some protein too because it'll keep you energetic. Drink water with your meals. Eat a lot of fruit. Fruit cups are good I think. It's better to eat three hefty meals a day than to eat an enormous amount of food at once. Hope my advice helps. To stay in shape, I would recommend weight lifting or intense activity with some aerobic exercise on the side. Intense activity for burning carbs, aerobic for burning fat.

A rotating shift like this is hard on a person, especially their habits like eating. I worked Mids, afternoons and days, rotating. I ate with the family, it was hard though. Eating breakfast when others were eating supper, etc.
Sleeping is another thing, it's the same. Good luck.

fruit cups contain a lot of sugar, even natural sugar will pack on the pounds. try pretzels dipped in mustard, or pizza. pizza is one of natures best foods all around
