Thai Airways is really not going to cost much more than any of the dodgy budget ones, and you won't really have any worries with them.
It's what I always use going back and forth from Phuket to Bangkok.

DON'T use Phuket Airlines! The planes are in a bad state & we've had an emergency landing with them. Very scary.

Difference in cost is around $25.00 but difference in reliability and safety is very big. Thai airways have highest standards and very reliable.

Only one flying there is Thai Orient Airlines. http://www.fly12go.com. You can buy the ticket at the airport if you do not wish to buy online.
