Buy a pair of light-weight gloves, maybe silk if you can still get them. Wear them when you tend to bite most, probably watching TV etc. The rest of the time you'll just have resist the urge. Also snip the loose skin bits off carefully with decent nail clippers. If you can let at least one finger recover, you will see how nice it looks and this should give you the will power to let the others recover. You'll be amazed how quick they heal and moisturiser will help keep them nice. Give yourself a goal and when achieved, give yourself a treat !! Good Luck.

It's an awful habit but it can be stopped although it may take some time. First tell yourself you can stop it and make up mind not to bite your nails no matter how tempted you may feel at that moment. Make a list of all the things you tend to lose if you keep on biting your nails on papers and paste it on a places you see them regularly. Ask God to help you for he has the antidote to every problem if only you can believe in him.

Hi! I do the same thing. I am also a nail biter. The only thing I can do to stop it is to get my nails done (get tips and gel) and for some reason I don't touch my fingers or nails. For me it is a nervous habit. If I am anxious about an upcoming event, or am watching a movie that makes me anxious I will start to bite.

Chew gum!! "i need to chew!"
There are lots of flavors to choose from... a NO SUGAR blend may do the trick.
Also, try drinking more water. Keep a small water bottle with you at all times, and take a small sip whenever you catch yourself biting.
RECONDITION yourself to think differently. It is a habit that can be broken in time. Just choose to do it and give yourself time to change and you will overcome this habit.
Use a lotion daily to sooth the soreness. Nail biting polish is available to deter the habit.
Take notice of how you are feeling when you bite, are you anxious, angry, or sad? Choose to change your thought for the moment, and take a sip of your water. Now SMILE and laugh to yourself that you are now conscious of your behavior and are going to change for better results.
Best of luck to ya.

I know i used to do the same.
I bought some manicure cream and kept it with me all the time, then when I felt like picking or biting, I would rub the cream in. Olive oil is just as good too or vaseline.
I bought a really expensive one so I would use and wouldn't waste it. With a cheaper option you may think s*d it and bite anyway.
Good Luck!

I used to do this when I bit my nails. I found that using one of those awful tasting polishes on my nails and the skin around them stopped me biting both. The taste is awful and it tends to linger on your tongue, so the thought of putting your fingers anywhere near your mouth is most unappealing!
Give it a try, just remember to paint it on the skin as well, and try not to eat with your fingers, the polish makes food taste gross too!

I do this as well - it's awful isn't it. Have you tried some of that foul tasting stuff that is designed to stop you biting your nails? It might help you break the habit. Good luck!

I used to do this too ....my mum always said it's nerves !
Anyway - at night i put
vaseline all around my fingers (nails, cuticles etc...) This will help the dry skin and keep them moist !
Good luck to you !! ...oh yah ...just remember -i used to always get my nails done ...like fake tips and press ons (proffessionally) .....that always stopped the skin from being dry and my nails always looked good too ! ; D

Handle some really hot peppers. Rub them around your finger tips and you'll only put your fingers in your mouth once !
Keep carrot sticks, celery sticks or even gum around to chew on.
