It has been determined that stomach ulcers are "caused" by a bacteria (Helicol Pylori). I'm sure I don't have that spelling quite right, but it is close. After you are done with the antibiotic, be sure to get a pro-biotic to re balance the good bacteria in your digestive system.

H. pylori, or helicobacter pylori, is the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers and/or gastric reflux disease.

Everyone has this bacteria in their stomach; sometimes in certain people it begins to overpopulate, if you will, your stomach and cause the above conditions. Lucky for you that the doctor caught it and you are now being treated.

You should have been given a 14 day supply of your antibiotic, and along with that your doctor should have suggested taking an over the counter medicine such as Prilosec or Zantac while you are taking the antibiotic to help with the heartburn symptoms.

I have found that the Prilosec is the one that works the best out of all OTC heartburn meds: reason is that each med works in a different way, and to keep it simple, Prilosec "turns off" the little pumps in your stomach that pump out the acid. Therefore when you take this med, no acid is squirted out into your tummy and it is a relief of the heartburn symptoms.

Hope that helps! Make sure you take ALL of the antibiotics and don't skip any days!
