It depends on the severity of the infraction. For example, Michael Waltrip was penalized 100 pts because his car violated several rules with the substance that was found in his intake manifold where as Scott Riggs was only penalized 25 pts for having caught with an infraction in pre-qualifying inspection.

It depends on how severe the act of cheating was. Of course as we all know NASCAR has the final say so on who and how many points are to be deducted. Here lately it looks like they don't care if your a little known or a well known, their going to penalize you. Personally, I think there going after the big names to let the lesser names know, hey we ain't playin' around this year. Hopefully it will continue all thru the season and not just there at Daytona.

Depends on what they cheated at.... AND they all cheat, even the people who announce the race, the fans, the hot dog vendors, the people camped in the infield, the pets who the racers bring to the race, the person who sings the banner, the guys who fly the jets over the race, the guy who pilots the GY blimp, the ticket takers, the guy who cleans the restrooms the kids who are running all over the infield, the boats on that infield lake, Coors, Miller, Bud, Dupont, Dewalt,Tom Dick and Harry and ME, THEY ALL CHEAT.

it depends on the type of offense really. there is no set scale that nascar goes by for rules violations. nascar officials dole out punishments on a case by case basis

Here lately... a BUTT-LOAD.

The penalties are at the sole discretion of Nascar based on the infraction(s).
