More details please! What kind of dog is it, how old is it, what does it look like?
I have named all my dogs for different reasons, a poodle I got for Xmas was Nicky, a sheltie we got from a pet store was acting like a little rascal in the visiting box so she got called rascal, my daughter named her rat terrier Eddie after the dog on Frasier, my current sheltie is named Bailey, because I like the drink and I've always liked the name. My niece named her pit bull Snoopy because he's black and white. My sister named her black lab Angel because her behavior is just the opposite.
You see, names come from all kind of reasons, you need to take a long look at the dog and his/her behavior and see what feels right.
Oh yeah, Bailey's coloring is the same as the drink too!

What kind of dog?
For a big dog, you could call him Bouffer (pronounced Boofer, it's a funny name that is derived from the french word for a glutton, or one who eats like the wind).
A Husky should get a name that sounds eskimo or asian, like Akira or Kodiak (Kodie for short?).
A small dog could get a funny name like Butch or Spike.

I give all my pets real names....middle names or communion names too. Then, when I'm yelling at them (Ella, did you rip these clothes off the line? I'm going to bloody .......) the neighbours dont know if its kids I'm yelling at or the dogs! Proud mother of 4 VERY SPOILT mutts (Ella Von Zapp,Millicent Dillah,GiGi Mary Magdalene & Jester Gordon)

Try using a name that might reflect what breed of dog you have and/or any quirks or distinct mannerisms the dog might possess

so many names are already given to you by other users.you give the name to your dog according to his shape, structure, look, color, and most importantly behaviour.
