I'm 17 and she's 15 (I'm her first boyfriend). Been together 5 months. On Valentines day I decided to do something special for her since I didn't get her anything for Christmas (then again, she didn't get anything for me either).
I wrote her a really sweet letter with glitter pen. Made it really nice and touching. I'm the kinda guy that would normally not do something like this, but she really means a lot to me. I put the letter in her backpack at school on Valentines Day. She told me she loved the letter.
On Friday night we were hanging out at the mall, and when we bumped into some girl from our school she asked my gf how was her Valentines.
My gf said "Sucked". I was so hurt when I heard that. After what I did... I just spent the rest of the time at the mall in silence and just got up and left. She chased after me asking what's wrong, and later said she was only joking. I left anyways...
Did I over-react? Have any of you girls said something stupid like that to your bf before?

Even if she was joking... What she said was very hurtful, especially after all the effort I did to make this letter special. Have any of you ever experienced something like this? She didn't even do anything for me for Valentines... Yet she tells her friend in front of me.. "sucked"

She was trying to be cool for her friends. And yes, immature. Let's face it she, and you, are both still young. I think you did a nice thing. She should have known better and one day will look back at what a fool she was. Don't take it personally. I know that's easy to say, but you sound like a really really nice guy. I wish you were dating my 16 year old daughter (but she's 6'1") Have a good nite.

If my boyfriend gave me a letter on Valentine's Day I would've been overjoyed. Yes, your girlfriend does sound very unapprieciative. She also doesn't seem to be very understanding...If I were in your shoes and my gf did that to me, I think I would've done the same thing that you did, so no, I don't think you overreacted. Not at all. And her saying that she was joking....I dunno if she really was. A lot of people just say that. But I'm not really sure, seeing as how I was not there to witness this event, maybe she meant it. I don't know.
I think you should find someone who won't be inconsiderate. That was quite rude of her, after you poured out your heart and soul to her in a letter...most guys don't do that. That shows that you care for her, your kindness and how much you really love her. That was very sweet of you. Maybe you should find someone who is willing to be true to you, and not say things like that. Or you could talk to your girlfriend, really talk to her. Communication is key in EVERY relationship.
Every Valentine's Day I write my baby a letter to show him how much he cares because I don't exactly have much money to spend on him, that and I think Valentine's Day is too commercial and people are WAY too materialistic and only seem to love things and use people, instead of the other way around. That's not how it should be. And no, I have never said anything stupid like that to my boyfriend, I think before I open my mouth...

Hey friend, I am 27 and have been with my bf for the past 10 years through friendship and then love. I guess I have been hurtful in this relationship but never told him or others that being with him was horrible. He is not very rich but I have never BELITTLED him even once. I normally spend if I can when its his birthday or valentines. I think this age is too young for love but when you find a girl you truly love no matter what the age then she should be humble and appreciate you for what you are. If you feel that she has done something to hurt you, then forget her. Just find a girl who can LOVE you for what you are all about.
Its very simple. Perhaps she just expected something costly but what you did is very sweet. If you had done that to me, I would have loved what you did plus loved you and shown you off to the world. This is what life is all about. But just remain steadfast and look out for a nice girl who truly likes you for what you are.
Best of luck and bye

A letter is nice, but i think she maybe felt kinda let down, valentines day means, flowers, candy, dinner, the day of love, and spoiling, I think maybe she thinks you didn't care enough, girls tend to be materialistic,so if you have a tight budget, you really need to be creative!

That was a very tacky thing for her to say. You did not overreact at all. She sounds very immature.

I know exactly what you mean. I got my bf a really cute dog with a lollipop and when I gave it to him, he went "thanks, cya" and just left me.
