She is five years old, and just a standard British moggy. Her behaviour is usual, and other than this, she is in good health. What should I do?

If she is eating and drinking like normal then that is a good sign. The sneezing can be caused by a few different factors. Herpes virus in cats can sometimes cause sneezing, in which case giving her L-Lysine daily can help (you should be able to pick that up from a local pharmacy). Lysine is a natural enzyme used to make proteins, so it is generally safe to give - any extra is flushed from the body, and is inhibits the replication of the virus. Sneezing can also be caused by an upper respiratory infection or even a foreign body. I would suggest checking her temperature - the only sure way to check if she is feverish is with a rectal thermometer. The normal temperature for a cat is about 101 degrees. If she does have a fever, or has green or yellow discharge from the nose, there is not much you can do for her without seeing a vet. Benadryl may also help with the sneezing. Hope that helps.

You must go to the vet. I would tell you to give her medication for flu, but recently I did the same to a cat and the flu passed, but the cat is now dying because she had another problem I didn't know about and the medication destroyed her kidneys. So every time the vet needs to do some blood tests first to determine the problem, and then give you advice. Besides, if her nose is not running, she might not have a flue but something else.

It is possible she has become allergic to something, or quite possibly she has something up one of her nasal passages, it may stop over the rest of the day, check her eyes if they seem a bit watery or mattery please take her to the Vets for a check up asap, Cats & Dogs can catch colds and flu which are like ours a pain but can be treated if caught in time, Cat Flu however is far more serious I hope you have been having her innoculated against this on an annual basis. either way if it doesn't clear up you must seek a vet

My 13 year old cat has started having bouts of sneezing every few months, vet thinks it could be catarrh and gives him tablets which clears it.If he doesn't get the tablets straight away horrible mucus comes down his nose.

keep an eye on her for a few days, this may be just an allergy to some sort, if she carries on see your local vet and they will tell you whats up with her, if its nothing then at least you know you have done the right thing because you never know it could be something serious but good luck:-) i hope she gets better

She may well have an allergy to something. But if this persists it might be worth consulting a vet to ensure that she has not contracted cat flu, which requires active treatment.

Best wishes to you both, J

She might have allergies. My cat is only 3 years old and he's been caughing alot so i took him to the dr's and they told me he had an infection in his throat so they gave me an antibiotic, it only cut his caughing in half. I also noticed this morning after i cleaned the litter box that he started caughing, so it was from the dust in the litter. She could be allergic to something in the house.

See the vet as you will get good advise from him/her. Your cat might be allergic to something like dust.

it will either just be a cold or could be allergies, definatly take her to the vet to be checked out though then you can be advised on what to do next.

Take a look at her nose, if it's all wet and snotty then she's got a cold, take her to the vet.
