If your dog is running loose and their is a leash law in your area, than they do not have to leave a notice. If it was contained on your property than they have to leave a notice to take it. They usually will leave at least one notice to contact them before they take the dog, unless the dog is in such serious condition that they feel the the dog will die before they paperwork so that they can seize it can be filed. Also, they have to hold the dog for 48 hours before they can do anything with the dog (they can do necessary medical care, but they cannot try to re-home the dog or put it to sleep).

If they removed it from your property, then yes they will/should leave a notice or ticket. If it was roaming the streets, then no. But, if your animal had a tag or electronic chip, they will be calling you.

They did when they took mine off my front porch. If your dog has tags or a micro chip they will call you, but I don't think they are legally obligated to try to track you down or anything.

You could call them and ask if they took your dog, and if so, ask why you didn't get a notice.
