I have read the Bible. I have read it many times. I have also read many discourses on the love between Jonathan and David. One has to do all sorts of mental gymnastics to read this story and think, 'Oh, they were just pals.'
How many of you responders who are so quick to say, 'NO! They weren't gay!!! God forbid!' have ever read any scholarly research on the subject? There is quite a bit of learned conjecture about this historical relationship. Much of this conjecture says that yes, the two men were lovers. For men to be lovers was not only not unknown in those times, it was largely accepted in many circles.
To those of you who say 'Homosexuality is wrong. The Bible states it clearly' I ask: do you honor ever single commandment, edict, suggestion and condemnation in the Bible? I would bet the farm that you do not. You pick and choose which ones are convenient for you to follow. The others you dismiss as being out of date, or irrelevant.
I believe Jesus would call you 'hypocrites.'

Just because they loved each other doesn't mean they were gay. What, two people of the same sex can't love each other without there being sex involved? Give me a break.
AND if a person thinks something is wrong, it does NOT mean they're a "homophobe."
Homosexuality is wrong according to the Bible. I see homosexuality the same as I see other sins such as lying, stealing, committing adultery, et cetera.
I don't condemn the person, I condemn the LIFESTYLE.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Don't read the Bible through the lens of today's oversexed culture.
I think you're attaching a meaning to "love" that isn't there. Specifically, you're attaching a sexual meaning to the word, even though love isn't always a sexual thing. In fact, it usually isn't.
Nor is it a good idea to contort and twist the meanings of Bible verses in order to justify something like homosexuality.
No offense, but that's what you're doing here. You know perfectly well that Jonathan didn't love David in a sexual sense -- but that's the idea you're trying to push in order to justify sexual conduct that the Bible clearly defines as sinful.

The Bible is the Word of God and homosexuality is a sin. You need to read the Bible because there was not a homosexual relationship between David and Jonathan, it was a brotherly love.

Because the translated word "love" in the verses that you write about is not about sexual 'love', it is about affection (like one has for a friend).
Problems always come up when people don't understand how to use a simple Hebrew or Greek dictionary that will help to understand words that possibly might not be translated in such a way for those that have a desire to have something say something not suggested within a text.
Problems with translation has caused alot of problems and not just with scripture. Checking out things that are on the news will show that such happens even with modern translations even today.

"Four types of this form of criminal wickedness can be distinguished in an effort to show you the totality of the whole matter in and orderly way: some sin with themselves alone [masturbation]; some by the hands of others [mutual masturbation]; others between the thighs [interfemoral intercourse]; and finally, others commit the complete act against nature [anal intercourse]." - St. Peter Damian ("The Book Of Gomorrah" 11th century A.D.)
"Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, (Cf. Gen 19:1-29; Rom 1:24-27; 1 Cor 6:10; 1 Tim 1:10) tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." (CDF, Persona humana 8) They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved."

Jonathan was not Gay Period! He had a son; also he was loyal to his father Saul unto death. What you wicked people can't understand is true love of righteousness. Sex and sodomy is not love; it is the lust of the flesh which brings about death and HELL! God condone sex and marriage by Adam and Eva that means man and wife, To procreate the earth, and become one flesh. You people are the children of the devil, and unless you repent before leaving this earth. Hell will be your home! The Rapture is days away! Repent!
