I mean other then our cities and expensive ocean front properties, do you really think global warming will have a negative impact on this planets future? Over earths life span its has been nearly covered in ice, volcanoes, sulfuric gas, ect. Life is very adaptable and even through the worst life will go on here, even tho humans may be put out of the picture. Earth may be changing maybe for the better but it is not down and out.

Well, here's my personal view about global warming and it's effects on our planet.

We are witnessing the onset of the end of the world as we know it.
The present civilization has set into motion that which has already upset the balance of the earth and which has kept man and earth's creatures safe from self-induced environmental catastrophe to this point in time.

What we call global warming is the result of our gorging ourselves with fossil fuels and emitting it's by-product into the atmosphere with callus disregard for the environment or the air we breathe.

The few scientists who recognize this fact are in such small and insufficient numbers that their warnings are falling on deaf ears as competition between the most powerful countries of the world for export supremacy overwhelms any sentimentality one would hope for when considering the condition of the planet we must continue to live on.

As our mother earth continues to warm into the danger area and the news reports "another record breaking month with the warmest average temperature on record." and the glaciers and ice caps continue to melt away leaving no place for even the once majestic polar bear to exist, and ocean levels continue to rise each year, we should take a moment to step back, look around and think about just how many more generations we can afford to simply wonder aloud..."isn't it time we did something about this mess we've created before it's too late?"
Well my friends, perhaps it's already too late.

So ends my rant o' the day.
Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to express my feelings.

Global warming is at the fore front because politicians found how to use a new platform to get re-elected. The world leaders use it because they found ways to make money at it. This is a made up problem just like Global Cooling in the 1970's. Wake up people. I agree we need to be more efficient with our resources, and we should fine and jail companies who are dumping into our rivers maliciously. I want to stop the raiforest destruction, but to say that global warming is a serious man made issue and we need to destroy the American economy and bow down to the rest of the world certainly does not float my boat. Follow the money on this one and you will see that it is all for political gain and grant money for those scientists who profit off of the government if global warming stays at the front of the issues. Look deep into the Keoto (sp?) Treaty, first of all they took jets to a non-central resort location. Not very environmentally concious. THen in the parameters of the treaty they have a clause that makes it so you can buy or sell polution credits. This is all about shifting wealth and breaking down the United States. This is painfully obvious, just look at peoples agenda. The earth's mean temperature has risen .6 degrees C in the past 125 years. Greenland's icecaps have gotten colder in the past 10 years. The Scientists who do not gain anything on their posisition will tell you that the earth has a natural progression and this is what we are seeing. The UN report is made up of POLITICIANS not a good spread of scientists. THere are as many or more scientists who believe that man in NOT the reason and it is over hyped, but their voice is not heard in the LIberal Mainstream Media. This issue is 99% political, and an attempt to make the USA a socialist nation, and eventually communisim. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS TIME TO BE AMERICANS. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. STOP THE LIES

Interesting question... the earth has been warmer and it has been cooler, and life has persisted. The question is: will a warmer climate be amenible to human (and other existing species') life? Will a rapid change in climate allow enough time for life to adapt, or are we all done for? The consensus always seems to be doom and gloom, but maybe that's too pessimistic. The last ice age came with incredible speed: in only a couple of thousand years, North America went from a relatively warm place to being covered a mile deep in ice, and life persisted. Who's to say that a planet that's five degrees warmer than it is now isn't better? Why is the current climate the ideal climate? It's the unknown that's the scary part.

It is too late. We may have played a part in speeding up this cycle, but it was going to happen anyway. That's ok though! Now that the ice and polar bears are out of the way, we can take up the Alaskan wilderness and enjoy balmy summers in good ole Gnome. We can grow oranges in the winter! It's entirely up to us on how we take advantage of this situation. If people are stupid enough to stay where they are (i.e. New Orleans) then they deserve to die. For those of us with no nostalgia and no religion, we can roam wherever the land takes us. So, don't worry about it. You'll be fine if you just keep moving.

In rapid precis, if adequate chilly, clean water coming from the melting polar ice caps and the melting glaciers of Greenland flows into the northern Atlantic, it is going to close down the Gulf flow, which keeps Europe and northeastern North u.s. heat. The worst-case project would be an entire-blown return of the final ice age - in a era as short as 2 to 3 years from its onset - and the mid-case project would be a era like the "little ice age" of a few centuries in the past that disrupted international climate varieties best to truly harsh winters, droughts, international desertification, crop mess ups, and wars international extensive.

I really don't know.

Life as we know it - maybe. All life? Hardly.

If a life form can reason does the fact that it isn't a bipedal humanoid render it invalid?

Besides, this graph at Wikipedia continues to intrigue me.

If you try to fight nature, nature will fight back in its own ways. A time will come and life in Europe will be unbearable and we will see the second scramble for Africa which has tried to maintain its forests etc

try the short run that is here and killing already ,the long run may be more drastic

how i envey the bliss of ignorence enjoyed by so many ,
but for how long can one have his head in the sand ,before noticing that your a**s is on fire

Is global warming a man-made menace?

not all there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

some home truths

politicians and scientists who work for politicians have downplayed the facts because solutions are expensive and means change and change effects many people income, and most of the world is kept in the dark of the real things that are going on.

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification

in recent times thousands of people have died because of exessive heat, usually old people.in India ,Mexico and France,
deforestation causing desertification, the desert conditions causing very cold nights and scorching hot days

in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert, the globe where they were got to hot for them .
and instead of producing food they are now needing it from some where else, and they will drastically effect the world food prices when they start buying water in the form of grains ,at any cost destabalising governments, in some countries ,could be the result
(are you seeing more Chinese around interested in agricultural lands ,we do here in Mexico)

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and all of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were no desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,

as far as the food production is concerned, Global warming or some of its effects are serious, rising seas result in landloss

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

more landloss because of desertification every year,we have less areble land to produce food ,for an extra 70 million people ,

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers
who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,
because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing

RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use
