The purpose of life is not MATERIAL HAPPINESS which is transitory, flickering and temporary but it is the eternal SPIRITUAL HAPPINESS obtained with love of Godhead.

Just like one goes to school not to stay there permanently or one goes to the hospital not to stay there for over. From the school we learn and go out and from the hospital we get cured and go out. Similarly in this temporary miserable world of repeated birth and death (Mrityu samsara) we learn the lesson and go back to our original home, back to God's abode in the spiritual world

The same question was asked by Mike Robinson of London Broadcasting Company in 1976 while interviewing Prabhupada(Founder of ISKCON). Some excerpts from that :

Mike Robinson: Can you tell me what you believe to be the meaning of life? Why do we exist in the first place?

Srila Prabhupada: The meaning of life is to enjoy. But now you are on a false platform of life, and therefore you are suffering instead of enjoying. Everywhere we see the struggle for existence. Everyone is struggling, but what is their enjoyment in the end? They are simply suffering and dying. Therefore, although life means enjoyment, at the present moment your life is not enjoyment. But if you come to the real, spiritual platform of life, then you'll enjoy.

Mike Robinson: Can you explain to me, finally, some of the stages you go through in spiritual life? What are the spiritual stages a new devotee of Krishna goes through?

Sr la Prabhupada: The first stage is that you are inquisitive. "So," you say, "what is this Krishna consciousness movement? Let me study it." This is called sraddha, or faith. This is the beginning. Then, if you are serious, you mix with those who are cultivating this knowledge. You try to understand how they are feeling. Then you'll feel, "Why not become one of them?" And when you become one of them, then all your misgivings soon go away. You become more faithful, and then you get a real taste for Krishna consciousness. Why aren't these boys going to see the cinema? Why don't they eat meat or go to the nightclub? Because their taste has changed. They hate all these things now. In this way, you make progress. First faith, then association with devotees, then removal of all misgivings, then firm faith, then taste, then God realization, and then love of God, the perfection. That is first-class religion. Not some ritualistic ceremony of "I believe, you believe." That is not religion. That is cheating. Real religion means to develop your love for God. That is the perfection of religion.

Mike Robinson: Thank you very much for talking with me. It's been a pleasure talking to you.

Srila Prabhupada: Hare Krishna.

Happiness may be, but u must answer one question, what u really want? so the answer is ur aim! Do u think ur aim make u happy or it just satisfies some of your requests! And won't u regret following that aim when u get old? There r many people think that the aim of their lives are their career objective! They r not the same!

Some say happiness, others say peace, others would even say dominance and supremity.

But those are all relative terms.

Their definition depends on what the speaker/writer means.

Is there a higher/inner power, and if so, does that power have and set fundamental values for our lives?

Or, is this all there is? Should we all simply come up with our own individual values and hope to...no, we can't hope to God if we don't believe in Him.....so hope to herman that the person walking down the street towards us on a dark night has values that we share, and they won't take our wallet because it is valuable to them, or take our life because it has NO value to them.

It is said that it takes MORE faith to believe that everything came from nothing, than it does to believe that everything came from SOMETHING.

So, for me, I accept the concept of a higher power, and I think the purpose (or aim) of my life should be to "press in" to the Creator.

In Orthodox Christianity we say that mankind was created in the IMAGE of God, to become the LIKENESS of God.

So there is my aim in life. The Greeks call it "Theosis", which simply means becoming ONE with The Mind of God (The Father/The Source) just as Christ Jesus mentioned was His hope for us.

Sounds dull maybe, but along the way the bennies are, "Belief, Patience and Humility" or, as The Apostle Paul wrote:

"Faith, Hope and Love"

On the spiritual answer, it is to serve God above all. As human being to endure loneliness and enjoy happiness. Happiness if you are rich, loneliness if you are poor like a rat

somebody (Johnslat) up there mentioned: “3 issues in human existence are significant: the 1st is to be variety; the 2d is to be variety; and the third is to be variety.” paradoxically, that particular same individual only informed me in e mail to place my evaluations "the place the solar does not shine" and referred to as me some names too -- paradoxically, a "hypocrite" became into one in each of them. We provide our own lives meaning. i think of justice is amazingly significant to making a human existence helpful.

We are here for more than one reason, and it's to do with learning, about ourselves, oracles of God's and to be here for one another, building our spirits up for our next life that's eternal.
