"Potty Training in One Week" book (By Gina Ford) was a good & easy read. It has some good tips on how to help your child deal with different situations in potty training. I have got the book.

It didn't work for me first time but I kept trying as I didn't want to put too much pressure on my son to potty train. He did well at first but then after a few weeks it was back at square one... (being ill)

I left it for a while before trying again and that time he was better and managed to sleep through the nights without a bedtime nappy after a few trial and errors.

He's been dry at nights since he was 3years old... although I do let him off for the odd accident which is very rare. It usually happens when he's not feeling very well.

Do be patience!

* DO NOT tell your child off if they fail to use the potty or if they have an accident.

I always try to encourage my son to go to the toilet before he goes to bed but that does not always work. I still give him a cup of milk or water before bed or at his bedside.

I get thirsty myself though the night so I don't think its quite fair to deny him a little drink.

Sometimes dehyration can cause bowel irrations and cause him to go to the bathroom.

Setting up a potty chart can encourage your child to do well at potty training... don't be disappointed if your son fails to have a dry bed.

I have special sheets on the mattresses under the cotton sheets so its not too bad to clean up the mess and it stops your mattress getting soaked.

Other possible reason your son is bed wetting is maybe he feels stressed out at night when you get stressed about him wetting the bed. It could be...nightmares, worries, stress, being cold, unwell. Keep him in bedtime pull ups and congratulate him every time he manages to go to the toilet and even more at night. Give him a big hug and star on his chart.

Reassure him not to feel sad or upset if he accidentally wets himself. That can sometimes set them back a step.

Its not easy I know but he will get there eventually.

Oh joy(!) I'll be potty training my other son soon enough. Wish me good luck!! haha Just be patience and thats the trick. Try not to let him see you are upset.

My boy was the same. I saw the school nurse who supplied him with an alarm - woke him up with the slightest dampness. Within a few weeks was dry. He was monitored by nurse for about 10 weeks but has been fine since. I tried everything else before this i.e. waking during night to take to toilet and no drinks after a certain time. This was only thing that worked for us.

It's nothing to be so concerned about. It is quite common and from reading the answers time is the best cure - routine with drinks and cutting them down will all work. I lifted my son during the night and stopped gradually.
Stop putting him in nappies as this will only encourage his laziness.
A star chart is a great thing and worked for my son.
Good luck as know how tiring it is changing beds every morning and half way during the night.

Stop putting the nappies on this only incourages your child to go to the toilet.. Always make sure that hes last drink is about an hour before bed. Make sure he goes to the toilet before bed, then just as your going to bed make him go again. Also try a star chart it worked for my daughter. If after a month things havent changed have a word with your GP.

I had the same with my son, he was still in nappies at night when he started school.
We even had to get specially oversized nappies meant for disabled older children!
Surprisingly, the thing that cured him was a star chart. The health visitor suggested it and we didn't think it would work, but within a week he was dry and no "accidents" since (he's 19 now!)
Plenty of drinks during the day, but none after 6pm except for a little sip of water cleaning his teeth. We did lift him as we went to bed but it soon became unnecessary.
Good luck

nicely, has he executed this considering the fact that early existence? if so, he's in all probability seen a doctor approximately it and that is in all probability a developmental situation. (which will bypass away by ability of itself at last) If that is greater present day, then it ought to have a pathological reason, like an infection. that is worth getting him a sparkling bill of well-being from a doctor related to this. no longer wetting the mattress while he's together with his mom factors to a psychological subject. stress would reason bedwetting, and he must be under pressure at different places for many motives. some human beings moist the mattress only while they are remote from domicile. after all, you're able to help him. The worst ingredient you're able to do is to get offended at him for some thing he can not administration. As for fixing the subject, if the reason isn't pathological then it may only be dealt with, no longer cured. If i ought to probability a wager, the medicine he's taking reduces urine production. you ought to evaluate having him positioned on "absorbent underclothes" (diapers, in case you're actually not into euphemisms) which might make it much less of a topic as he ought to truly exchange himself in the morning and it might preclude any moist beds. there is many concepts accessible for him, which contain Goodnites, Underjams, and relies upon. only do this if he's keen to objective it, of direction.

I was just talking to someone well-read on this subject yesterday. She said 50% of boys bed-wet until they are 12 and 10% until they are 18. In boys particularly the bladder doesn't grow as fast as the rest of the body so as the body produces urine there's no where to store it.

Suggestions:

Have the child drink more water throughout the day and cut off liquids 3 hours before bedtime.

Have the child drink larger portions of water at times so they're bladder learns to stretch to hold it at night.

Don't do the diaper, he'll depend on it.

Not a good idea to wake them up to take them potty as the bladder won't learn to grow and hold it through the night. (OK, we do this, but that is her suggestion. We haven't decided yet, but I think if I leave off water sooner in the day, but still make sure he gets enough throughout the day, we're going to stop getting him up.)

First stop giving him anything to drink at about 6 pm this way when you have him go to the bathroom before bed he should be good thru the night, maybe the first few nights wake him in the middle of the night but after about 2-3 nights he should be good from there.
