They will be there until someone in Washington has the nerve to say enough is enough, we accomplished what we came to do, now let's get out.
I don't see that happening anytime soon either.
Bottom line is if you deploy there, you are there as long as they want to keep you there.

Hey, guys. This is not a Sunday picnic where you can just pick up and go without any problems. If you take a look at history and previous problems of the same sort then you will get to maybe, understand.
It works like this. If we leave now then everything in Iraq goes to HELL and quick and Iran and crazy loony terrorists win b/c they get to take the country back and do what they want.
In, what country was it, darn, can't remember. But there is a country north of Israel/Palistine that got bombed and Iran and some looney terrorist organizations decided to do some public relations work with these other people that they want to get a piece of their government (Iran is rich, sort of -the people are poor but they sell a-lot of oil) and now they (the country that got bombed and then helped) like the looney terrorists more that America and alies b/c we whined about the money etc and took too long to help them out. NOT that we took a long time at all but the looney terrorists were there in like a couple days. So, there is now a better chance that they will vote a looney terrorist into their government, now and have looney terrorist government canidates.
If we abandon Iraq to fight it all out themselves then the bad guys will come out on top. We can't have that! We are protecting our interests by having a country that is not uber crazy close to the uber crazy ones to kind of tone the uber crazy ones down and in time bring more stability to the area because that area of the world is totaly wacked in the head.
History taught us that: if we don't play a part then we will regret it in time. We MUST play a part in the middle east. As a matter of fact, we waited too long.
We are going to be there for a long long long time. Why, well duh, the place is a mess and needs the help. If we just walk away then it will stay a mess and not get better. Wouldn't it be nice to have a decent country in that part of the world sometime soon?
Wars and battles and changes in government take lots of time. A-lot. Heck, we are still in Nam. Not in the numbers like we used to and crazy stuff doesn't happen there like it did but we're still there.
Iraq needs us dude. We made the jump to invade and if we are to have any credibility then we need to stay until the job is done.
This moping around and democrats whining about not pulling out our troops is posturing/posing (whining about one thing when it's not really what you will do b/c it would be a bad idea) and not what they will really do, at all. They say, Oh, we'll get the troops out soon, ya, right... Hmmn. If they had a fix-all for this then it would have been done already! (think about it, if people were seriously so against us staying there and it was only the president keeping us there then congress would be able to bring back every single one of the troops over there, but they don't b/c well we need to be there and if it were just the democrats that wanted to bring back the troops =they could, they control congress! but the posture and whine but if we but I have no respect for it b/c it's bull. No matter which president is in office next, we will still be there -even if it is a democrat.)
Get used to the idea of Iraq b/c we will be there for a long time to come...
