Over Christmas, my uncle had bought several bottles of Moet&Chandon and I remember hearing him refer to it as "the good stuff."

(I know that Moet makes Dom Perignon, which is a famous and expensive champagne)...
but I was curious if Moet&Chandon IS really one of the better brands of champagne, and how much a regular bottle of it might cost (non-vintage).
Thanks :)

Moet White Star is usually in the $30-35 range. The Brut imperial which is drier is closer to $40. Dom Perignon is about $140 or so. I think that are certainly one of the big names and the champagne is good but if you are looking for a little better seek out some of the smaller champagne producers. Some good Non-vintage champagnes are:
Pierre Gimmonet
Guy Larmandier
Nicolas Feuillatte
Deutz
Pommery
Duval leroy
Bollinger
Mumm cordon rouge
Gosset
My favorite NV champagne is Billecart Salmon brut rose. It'a a little pricy ($75) but it is great.

Enjoy!!!!

Moet & chandon is a reputed champagne maker and thus rarely disappoints drinkers. However having said that I wouldnt say that its the best.
The price range varies from about $30 upwards for a good bottle.
Dom is expensive though. Also most of the Moet&Chandons are made by using the traditional Champagne method.

Moet White Star is indeed good. (You are so lucky!) I used to pick it up for about $30-$35 a bottle.

Another good bubbly is Mumms demi-sec. It runs about $19-$25.

There are many good champagnes like Philippe Gonet, Bollinger, Perrier-Jouet, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, Salon, Charles de Cazanove and many others. I was at the Maison Philippe Gonet in Sep last year harvesting and pressing the grapes and their Roy Soleil Blancs de Blancs is outstanding.
