My little brother brought home a stray kitten last year; The kitten was completly normal for about 6 months and it started growing real fast; it is just a little over a year old and is larger than my other grown cats. Now here is the odd part it is a female long hair and black in color except around its neck; it has like a mane that has turned gray and it is large (the mane that is) the mane looks like a lions mane. I am over 50 years old and been around cats all my life and have never seen anything like her. Any help Identifing what type she may be will be greatly appreciated.

It is quite possible that this kitten is a Maine coon mix, this breed generally gets much larger than the common domestic shorthair almost twice the size just the other day I saw a 4 month old Maine coon that was the size of a 1 year old DSH cat. It is typical of the breed to have that long hair and mane also to have large ears with wispy tufts of fur coming out of them. Without seeing the cat it is hard to say but it is possible.

I sounds like a Maine Coon cat. I had one that I got from the spca. It took someone with 2 gloves to get it out of the cage because it sounded so wild. But when it was put in a room with us it was very quiet and playful. It's name was Percy and we loved him dearly. Maine Coons are the largest cat in n\North America. They do get quite large. He weighed 24lb at one time.
We have a lot of appy memories of the cat.
