Is upholding the Ten Commandments a sign of weak mindedness? Is belief in the Will of God an excuse to dodge personal responsibility?
OR does it take strength of character, moral fibre and true courage to follow God's way and be ridiculed, condemned and even persecuted unto death for your beliefs?
Why do atheists appear to brand all Christians as stupid, weak and irresponsible? Or is theirs a valid claim?
RULES - Evidence must be submitted to back up your point of view and specific examples given. No generalisations and please resist the temptation to quote chunks form the writings of other people. It's YOUR OPINION that's wanted here, not someone else's. Oh, and can we also keep this fun? No need to get personal or nasty. Let's use our brains (as in God-given to those who believe in God and Godless to those who don't).

Hey, funnelweb, chill out! I am simply playing 'Devil's Advocate' by using what other people on this site have said about religious people. I am not puting forward my own opinions. I don't brand ANYONE as stupid, weak or irresponsible. I have found that people who believe in evolution are (generally speaking) highly intelligent and interesting. This is just a platform for people to air their opinions. Shalom.

A key factor that we all must recognize is that the vast majority of scientists who believe in evolution are also atheists or agnostics. There are some who hold to some form of theistic evolution, and others who take a deistic view of God (God exists but is not involved in the world...everything proceeds along a natural course). There are some who genuinely and honestly look at the data and arrive at the conclusion that evolution betters fits with the data. Again, though, these represent an insignificant portion of scientists who advocate evolution. The vast majority of evolutionary scientists hold that life evolved entirely without ANY intervention of a higher Being. Evolution is by definition a naturalistic science.
For atheism to be true, there must be an alternate explanation for how the universe and life came into existence. Although beliefs in some form of evolution predated Charles Darwin, Darwin was the first to develop a plausible model for how evolution could have occurred - natural selection. Darwin once identified himself as a Christian, but later renounced the Christian faith and the existence of God as a result of some tragedies that took place in his life. Evolution was "invented" by an atheist. Darwin's goal was not to disprove God's existence, but that is one of the end results of the theory of evolution. Evolution is an enabler of atheism. Evolutionary scientists today likely would not admit that their goal is to give an alternate explanation of the origins of life, and thereby to give a foundation for atheism. However, according to the Bible, that is exactly why the theory of evolution exists.
The Bible tells us, "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God'" (Psalm 14:1; 53:1). The Bible also proclaims that people are without excuse for not believing in a Creator God, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - His eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse" (Romans 1:20). According to the Bible, anyone who denies the existence of God is a fool. Why, then, are so many people, including some Christians, willing to accept that evolutionary scientists are unbiased interpreters of scientific data? According to the Bible, they are all fools! Foolishness does not imply a lack of intelligence. Most evolutionary scientists are brilliant intellectually. Foolishness indicates an inability to properly apply knowledge. Proverbs 1:7 tells us, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

Upholding Ten commandments is not a weakness. They are just code of conduct for any human being.
Accepting and following these general principles need not make a person a or an atheist.A believer need not be ashamed about his faith so also is an atheist. Both have their own reasons or faith.
An atheist does not find any reason to be live in a creator ,or god because if he is god and he intentionally created man,he has committed a grave mistake. He cannot create some human beings with powerful brain and all good qualities and others as crippled, morons and stupid people living in perennial poverty and sickness!!
Again why should he create human beings.. what is the purpose and what do they gain..
I do agree that the universe as well as the working of the brain and heart etc are all so wonderful.. but what do he gain at the end?

Upholding the Ten Commandments, surely these commandments are from the Jewish faith and why is anything we do is seen by others as a weakness.
As you say believing in the will of god to dodge responsibility an excuse, responsibility is up to the individual that is free will.
Look at to days world everyone is being ridiculed condemned, persecuted unto death even if they are non believers.
As far as Atheists branding Christians as you say is not uncommon they brand all religions, they think it is valid.

Belief in a Creator God is not an abdication of responsibility.
In fact, the opposite is true.
If a person doesn't believe in a Creator then he/she doesn't feel as though they have to answer to anyone else and can justify leaning on their own understanding instead of a higher authority. This is irresponsible.
Atheists are always going to have negative views about Christians, that's a fact that cannot be changed.
It does take strength of character to stand out as different and be ridiculed for it but true Christians will attribute that strength to God not themsleves.

First you need to sort things out Belief in God does not mean you have to believe in the ten commandments, they are good things, but what ever anybody says they were in the end written by man, over the years man has twisted God's words in many ways, how much of them did change?
I don't know about having strength of character I follow my beliefs in God, and if others want go there way fine, but i find few that will condemn me or others for having my own views.
Atheists, ask yourself how many of them on yahoo are real? if they really don't believe why are they here, is it because they are afraid to admit they have thoughts about something they can't PROVE either way, are they hear really seeking answers?
You want evidence, take a look around the world to start with, I can't prove my faith to you but then I don't need God knows how strong my faith in him is, if you want evidence about man changing Gods words, well to start with study Hebrew and read some of th text before it was translated, I can not offer you any other that that.
Love & Peace

Again, I have to say, you quote the bible, now once again, the bible is a select group of stories and opinions, written by very few, in individual ways, their ideas and beliefs.
I believe its a way of control, and there is another explanation to the creation theory, because theists speak of it as being someone with a lego set, putting us together, so if that's true? Why did dinosaurs exist etc, God put them there to fool us? Surely if God wanted everyone to follow his good self, that's a pretty stupid move, to test people's faith? No, he needs no reason to test people's faith than looking at the money-making businesses that churches are, the corrupt holy men/women (priests etc.) I don't think more needs to be said, I think religion is an easy way out as it's an excuse for providing beliefs for you, rather than you comin up with your own beliefs and explanations for the world around you.

Princess Yum Yum...has anyone ever accused you of being bossy, or (heaven forbid!) a control freak?
Okay, the answer is no. No one wants to take on the responsibility of everyone, which is what God does. "It's all in God's hands" is a phrase usually used when an intelligent person recognizes the uselessness of getting anxious over something overwheliming. Far as I can see, anyways. It's a way of taking care of yourself, and relieving stress. Those who are always trying to fix things that are unfixable are only banging their heads against a stone wall. There are some things that are just too big. To give it to God is a way of loving oneself.

You've got rules for us to follow? I am an atheist, you have made a sweeping generalization, saying "Why do atheists appear to brand all Christians as stupid, weak and irresponsible? Or is theirs a valid claim?" I believe that means you have broken your own rules. I don't brand all christians as stupid, weak and irresponsible, nor do I do that to followers of none christian religions. That is a fact. There are no gods, demons, heaven, hell or equivalents of these. People however have lived with religion for thousands of years, and it is difficult to change, people are taught to believe certain things, it is expected of them, religion is not only archaic it is a control mechanism used by those in power. Do you know there are clergymen (and probably clergy-women) who don't believe in a god? Interesting thought don't you think?

I believe in God, just simply giving me the gift to think and react to this question is a sign that there is someone out there who is powerful enough to create me. The Ten Commandments are just a guide. God gave us brain to think and do what our own desires. Follow it or not, it's up to you, but the day of judgment will come where all of us are equal to His eyes.
Sometimes, Atheists are more knowledgeable than Christians, they keep on insisting that there are no gods but the truth is, they believe that there is, they believe that god are themselves. They just don't noticed it.
I have an Atheist friend who know a lot more about Bible than any of us do. Because they keep on researching on how to counteract the message. But just like the kids says, BIBLE means, "Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth".
It's up to you to follow it or not.
But as for my own opinion, God Loves more those people who hate Him rather than people who doesn't recognize Him.
Because those people who hate Him believes that He exist. But the Atheist know no god but themselves,

No to all your questions in the first paragraph.
Partly in the second paragraph. But to do so also requires you to listen to that small quiet voice which is your soul ( a spark of the Creator thrown off of ITS body before the creation of the Physical Universe)
Theirs is a valid claim .Look at all the people in prison that claim to be Christians as compared to all other religions. And why they are there.
