I spent many years in a non-denominational Christian church growing up. If there was anyone on the planet who would have chosen NOT to be gay it would have been me. I prayed for years that God would change me into a happy, healthy, heterosexual man. After years of this prayer it gradually dawned on me that a more honest and effective prayer would be to ask God to help me understand myself better. This prayer had not only a much more healing effect, it brought me into a much closer relationship with God.
I know that I am gay. I know God loves and accepts me no less than if I were a heterosexual man. My partner and I have been together for 15 years. We love one another profoundly.
My thought is that fundamentalist Christians are very disturbed by the thought that God would create a gay person, and then put verses in the Bible that say one should not be gay. So, therefore, they have to believe that God would never make someone gay, in order for it all to fit.
Am I right?

I have read through all of these answers. I am appalled by the answers by people who equate being gay with being a murderer. I am equally astonished at how people say, "Christians believe being gay is a choice because it is."
That shows circular logic at its best.
I stopped believing that a deeply flawed book with millions of possible interpretations (aka 'the Bible') was the 'word of God' many years ago. I have a very hard time believing that if God chose to write a book that represented holy writ in toto that this book would be it. The Bible has thousands of flaws, contradictions and mistakes. There are also thousands of verses that are completely ignored - verses that any rational person (even many Christians) know are completely irrelevant today.
And yet, fundamentalist 'christians' are intent on telling people how to live their lives, in spite of the fact that most, if not all, of what they say (being gay is wrong, for instance) is based on fear, hatred, and outdated social codes

they place a much higher priority on their bigotry than on what Christ actually taught--in fact they don't care at all what Christ taught. Just be glad that when their judgement comes they will be burning in the same hell they threatened you with

Leviticus 18:22 says: “ And with a guy you shall no longer lie with as a guy lies with a woman; it relatively is an abomination. ” and Leviticus 20:13 states: “ If a guy has sexual relatives with a guy as one does with a woman, the two considered one of them have achieved what's detestable. they're to be positioned to dying; their blood would be on their very own heads." stable question; i do no longer see that it would possibly be anyones corporation if somebody so chooses to be gay. human beings might desire to be left on my own, and unfastened to stay their lives as they choose for, as long because it would not violate yet another persons rights. If Christians are to be so strict on the concepts of Marriage, then they might desire to truly outlaw such issues as divorce. 2 solutions i found to be staggering on the right music. one could be gay in the event that they choose for to. you will homicide and kill rape and thieve. Christians do no longer make the guidelines. They by no potential have and by no potential will. A Christians pastime is to communicate the place the bible speaks and then close up. God will in the top have the final word. If God says it relatively is erroneous then it relatively is erroneous. And he like the 2nd answer would not care what all people else thinks. God would not care in case you get mad insurrection or choose for to forget approximately approximately him all jointly. God made guy and woman to be jointly for a whole life. The organic order of issues is to marry have toddlers and populate the international. households are approximately relationships based upon God's guidence and if it relatively is finished households stay jointly. there is not any evidence that God created human beings gay. there is evidence that he did no longer. with a view to be gay is a decision. If it makes you happy then so be it. yet understand that God has spoken in this count.

It is because fundamentalists are bent on complaining about "people's immoral behaviors today". They actually believe that the world was like "Leave it to Beaver" years ago, and with just a little more conformity, it can be that way again. They say that homosexuality is a "choice" because if it wasn't, then they couldn't classify it as a "bad behavior".

It does say in the bible that homosexuals will not enter the kingdom of God. And the bible is God's word.
Christians believe that people choose to be gay because ultimately it is true. The alcoholic believes that they have no control over drinking, the gambler believes they have no control over their habit, I will even go as far as to say that many who murder, rape and abuse believe that they have no control over their actions, and many of the things that harm us and others are difficult to overcome as we are not perfect, we are not God, we are human and often have little self-control.
But, once we accept Jesus into our hearts and place Him in control of our lives we are strongly convicted of what is not right in our lives. Sometimes God expects us to choose not to indulge in certain behaviours, no matter how difficult, as it develops our perseverance and our character. And whether it be instant or whether it be gradual, the Lord will always deliver us from the desire eventually.
For example take alcoholics. Many are able to manage their habit by having an acountability partner and support group to help them abstain but it is a constant battle not to drink but God is able to deliver them from the desire to drink altogether. I know because he did it for me with drugs and cigarettes. The first time I quit without God it was a real struggle to not smoke at social occassions and to persevere. Then I took it up on and off and eventually committed my life to Jesus. Well I prayed and prayed and tried to give it up but it was such a struggle and Id stop and start. Well last April the Lord placed it on my heart to quit Easter Sunday and I said 'Ok Lord Im quitting Easter Sunday, please deliver me from the desire to smoke' anyways I havent smoked since, I never had one craving or withdrawal symptom, it was amazing.
Just keep seeking the Lord and His will with all your heart and He will make it clear and deliver you from the desire.
Love and best wishes
PS I realise that in the world's eyes being gay is not equated with being a murderer but in God's eyes, sin is sin. Whether it is a simple lie, petty theft, cheating on our spouse, to murder, rape.....yes even homosexuality according to God's law commiting any of these makes us imperfect and thus seperated from God by sin. But he loved us enough AS WE ARE yes to redeem us from being seperated from Him if we choose to turn from our sinful lifestyles and turn to Him and thus obey Him.
For ALL fall short of the glory of God. ALL. You. Me. Everyone. But once we accept Jesus and follow God's plan for our lives in Him we can change, he makes us a new creation in Christ.

You're right about one thing, God does loves you, but He does not accept sin. God doesn't make people gay, it's called free will.

It is impossible for me to believe that Almighty God would lie but much easier for me to believe that you were deceived. You are right about that.

You are saying that you don't have a choice in who you decide to have sex with/have a relationship with? You actually have several choices: You can do it with a man, a woman, or not at all.
Although most wont admit it, just about everyone has a little homosexual urge on occasion. You have the CHOICE to act on it!
