That's an opinion that God is a man made character. To some, He is very real. The reason the idea of God has lasted so long is because of tradition and the teachings of the bible. Most people will always seek a higher power. As long as there are people, there will be the idea of God or Gods.

you have self conclusive comments on your supposed question and it seems you are foolish enough to say that God was a man made character 2000 years before. Are you having a bad dream, a satanistic dream? Our basis in believing God is our Bible, new and Old testament but you have no bases in commenting what you want to comment on the yahoo answers

Because mankind has not finished evolving from the need of a 'god crutch' yet. Slowly and surely though, the world's population is returning to it's original religion; atheism.

Humans were first atheist when they were too stupid to know any better, and when we eventually acquire a certain level of smartness if you will, we will return to this belief.

Latest studies reveal that between 14% - 18% of the world already has, and I'm part of the percentage.

If God were a man-made character, I doubt that many people would believe that he truly existed. God is not a man-made character.

I have never understood the preoccupation that some "non-believers" have with those who acknowledge that they believe in God.

I don't believe in leprechauns, aliens from another planet, or that black cats crossing my path are bad luck, but I don't go berserk about those that do. I certainly don't try to harass them, insult them, or show hatred toward them.

It has been my experience that people who react in that manner are insecure about what they claim to believe and react out of a well-founded fear that they are wrong.

Don't believe that everyone who professes to be a Christian is, especially if they do not act out of love. If they react out of any other motive, they are not Christians.

There are many liars in the world. Christians are not liars. As Paul stated, you cannot accept Christ as your savior and keep on sinning.

Christians must apply the gospel to themselves first. The only one we can "judge", i.e. sentence, using the bible is ourselves. God judges. The bible is a great tool for recognizing (discerning) and avoiding pitfalls and behaviors that are potentially dangerous.

Paul states, "Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial." So, those who choose to hate God, to deny God, to be angry with God, or to ignore God's commands are permitted to do so. However, the consequences are well documented, not only in the bible, but in human experience.

Hey Thomas.

Man cannot "create" or "make" anything. He can only rearange what he already has. consider the conservation of mass theory, and the conservation of energy theory. In the end, You have what you've always had. so how can God be man-made?

"Talk is cheap, like daydreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead"

Later Thomas, keep praisin Jesus.

Because there is and has always been a lot of power and money generated by organized religions. Multi-layers of religious hierarchy know their rice bowl is in keeping their particular God on top and the peasants faithful.

Good question. Not one million, not one hundred million, not one billion..., but the majority of people in the world firmly believe in the existence of the One True God. Let the UN make a free referendum for this.

JESUS(God, Christ, Messiah, Lord, Son, and Savior)
Mt 9:6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.
Mt 26:28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
1Jn 3:5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.
Heb 9:28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
When He appears the second time it will not be to settle the sin question. He is not going to come the next time to walk around the Sea of Galilee or through the streets of Jerusalem to see what men will do with His sacrifice. He is coming in judgment.
Therefore today we can put it very simply: there is just one of two places for your sin—either your sin is on you, or it is on Christ. If you have not accepted the sacrifice of Christ, if you are not trusting Him as your redeemer, if He is no authority to you, then there is nothing ahead of you but the judgment of the Great White Throne. No one who appears there is going to be saved, but everyone will be given a fair chance to present their works and discover that God was right all along. And I have news for you: God is always right. So today if your sin is on you, there is nothing that can remove it but the death of Christ.
When Christ comes the next time it will be “without sin unto salvation”—that is, He will complete salvation at that time. Our salvation is in three tenses: I have been saved; I am being saved; I shall be saved.
