Just live by example. Don't push your religion on her. She tried doing that to you and it didn't work out so well. If it becomes that big of an issue, you might need to reconsider the whole relationship. She should respect your religious choices and throwing a tantrum because you went to temple is a bit childish on her part. She loves you so she needs to love everything about you. Love doesn't come with conditions.

There is nothing called signing up for Buddhism. Buddhism is all that your crystal clearly seeing and understanding about the "life". You may can read sources to learn Buddhism. When you understand it you just have to live your day to day life knowing and doing good deeds avoiding bad, thinking and working like a Buddhist would make you a Buddhist simply it is, Seeing you are trying to convert from another religion and you are getting force not to go to temple, that's some what okay with this case. Because Buddhism has no such rule. A life of a Buddhist is a free one. You are not forced to do anything but you are taught, through the understanding on what you have taught being Buddhist is totally up to you. But even though you don't go to temple if you are a Buddhist you SHOULD know to worship Lord Buddha once you get the chance to go to temple. Or you can still make a little temple (Buddhist statue, fresh plucked flowers for Buddha, incense burner, a clay lamp ) inside your home and worship daily possible there. Learn the lines we use for worshiping and learn the meaning. Lines are written in 'Pali' learn their meanings in your language so when you worship understand what you worship. Other thing you can do meditation if you like and if you do you will feel how good it is. The act of arms giving is great thing to do, it is done by preparing clean food nobody eats till it is served for the monks. So that was little about the practical situation. So basically Buddhism can define to understanding of 'Four Noble Truths' of life. But remember Buddhism is vast if you learn it from the roots. And you can do search and learn more after you got the idea of Buddhism. I will underline what are these Noble truths easy as it sees, deep as it does, go deep and deep through them to see the truth of life to achieve 'Nirvana', It is never easy by just being a Buddhist, it takes times patient knowledge and clear see and understanding of life. Buddhism is a vast knowledge that one should gain. The Four Noble Truths: (the meaning is displayed in short so beginners gets an idea) 1) The Pain(“suffering”, “anxiety”, “unsatisfactoriness”, “unease”) 2) What is the reason for Pain.?(Origin of pain) 3).How to eliminate the Pain? (cessation of pain) 4).The way to eliminate the Pain. This can be followed in deeply which leads for more knowledge and understanding. But here it is a simple explanation about Buddhism. So becoming a Buddhist can be done as described at the beginning. The following video is from a 'puja'. That is the same thing we say when we worship.

Well i have a very similar predicament to your own except the fact i am an atheist but the same conversion still applies. My girlfriend is a very devoted mormon and just as unfortunate it is my least favorite religion as it is the one i find the most false. no offense to you mormons but i can prove it.

The main point is that through showing her my side of view and the evidences against her religion i got her to be less intense about it and we had sex. (which in case you didn't know.. is like the ultimate evil for them) but point aside. I pulled her almost completely out of the religion like that and i found she became a better person for it.. more herself. Just try to talk to your girlfriend and just "discuss" the idea of her religion with her. Let her bash buddhism as much as she likes and maybe she'll rub off on you too.

as a personal note i think buddhism is pretty cool and if i had to choose a religion that would be it. rock on

Absolutely! I once dated a Buddhist man and he changed my views on religion as well as life in general in many ways. Just be tolerant, kind and compassionate to her. Set an example in treating her with the same consideration in which you would like to be treated. If she doesn't come around, she just may not be the one for you, as hard as that is to hear. Best of luck to you and Brightest Blessings!

will the choice to leave her or be with her is yours, but just to let you know if she can't understands your believes then it is clear that she will not work out with you. I'm a catholic also but I'm not into that middle ages way of thinking, I'm smart enough for that. Since you are a buddhist I'm sure u know about desires causes sufferings so think wisely overthis matter.

My answer would be to work on changing your view. But if you can't you should think seriously about not getting serious with her. If she's grumpy now, it will not improve. In other words, that's as good as it's going to get, she will only get more perturbed, not less.

Pick up the book 'The Gethsemani Encounter' and read it yourself...then ask her to read it. There are many paralells between Christianity and Buddhism that you both will benefit from.

the best way to change her is to change yourself first, then if she really does see how much you have grown then she might follow your example. Buddhist believe if you want to change the world, the best place to start is with yourself.
