Yes it would be wrong to involve yourself without your boyfriend asking for your assistance. Getting in the middle of what is HIS problem is a definite way to cause troubles between the two of you. The laptop is his property, and therefore the problem should be his to solve. He may choose to do nothing at all, and you will have to accept his decision as what is right for him. One thing you need to keep in mind is that men deal with things differently than women, and there's NOTHING you can do about that, except be supportive of his way of dealing with it - even if ne does nothing at all.

Yes it would be inappropriate for you to step in the middle of this one. Station pranks happen all the time to the Rookie. Your boyfriend should let the other firefighters know that when it comes to personal damage a line has been crossed. In my department if it will damage or ruin something, then it's a NO GO! If the firefighters continue or refuse to offer an apology, then he needs to take it up with the next highest officer be it the LT or CPT. He should know this from the interview board as most ask about how you should deal with a problem with your coworker. First try to talk with the coworker and if that doesn't work go to the next in the chain of command.

He should be able to talk to his captain and explain why he's angry about it, he certainly has the right to be pissed. But he should be prepared to explain why he left it out and/or why he was using it in the first place. We play jokes on each other at the fire house all the time, but generally nothing to that extent. We have guys who bring their lap tops and we all have an understanding that you don't use someone else's computer without their permission and you don't abuse their letting you use it. Then again, we have 3 computers that are meant for the members (career or volunteer) to use, so most people stick to those.
Now, leave yourself logged into myspace and walk away and you're asking for trouble!!!!

Yes it would be wrong for you to go to his captain, don't ever involve yourself directly in someone else's fights! However you could encourage *him* to go to the captain about it, and support him behind the scenes so to say....
And get some good anti-spyware/anti-virus software. Ad-Aware is good, HijackThis, etc, etc.

As a former firefighter, I believe he should go to his superior and bring the issue to him. He should not need you to do it. You are not going to be there to hold his hand when he is running into a burning building to put it out.

I would under NO circumstances go to his captain about this. The other guys would never let your BF live it down.
