Dear, I know very well the headaches and the unbearable pains. Please, at any rate, convince your mother to see a good neurologist, because the symptoms you describe lead not only to one possible diagnose. It could be a migraine related pain, but when comes and gone within a day and she cannot even open her eyes..DO NOT waste time, fetch her to see a good specialist!!
The headache is one of the main symptoms of many medical conditions, so self-cure is not wise.
Wish you luck!!
Have a nice day!

Hi...I don't have too much new to add but I really want to stress a point. From what you say yes it is quite probable that it is migraines. BUT any sharp pain in the head should always be checked out by an MD to rule out a more serious problem.
If there is more going on, then this warning sign is a blessing and her shot at getting cured. Why risk it? At the very least you will leave the MD with peace of mind and hopefully some medication that will help ease the headaches There are many different meds for that now...I had to try several until I found the best one for me and it has been a godsend. And if there is more going on then they can do something about it and cure her, and not risk something far more serious.
PLEASE make her go to an MD. Not everyone is lucky enough to have warnings. My best to you both and hopefully it is nothing serious. But please both of you be smart and have it checked out ASAP!!!!!! I wouldn't just trust web site symptoms as things vary person to person...go and find out for sure. Good luck!

I have history of migraine. I hope this is helpful and informative. One thing that struck me as odd, is the fact that she gets the pain a few times a day sometimes. A migraine hits and stays with you for some time, could be a day, two days or a week. Usually it effects one side of the head. The is nausea, vomiting, sensitive to light and sound. Some people report seeing odd visuals of color and other blurrys (hard to explain that) I have seen people be unable to walk, talk and are in a paralyzed state during a Migraine. Ok , I hope you get your mother to a dactor soon. It could be a number of things. How is her blood pressure? is there a history of stroke in the family? Is she weak on one side of her body? See a doctor ASAP! 4 months is a long time. Google Migraine and see if she meets any of the symtoms there. The on and off a few times in a day leads me to say no it is not a migraine but your information is a bit limited. Hope she is willing and able to follow up with her Primary care doc.

The thing is, it may be migraines. It may be caused because she has a pinched nerve somewhere. It may be any number of things! In my experiance, chronic head pain is nothing to mess with! Do what you have to to get her to a doctor to find out what is causing the pain. Never assume it is something as simple as a migraine. It could be something that is life threatening. I don't mean to sound alarming, but most things, left untreated, could be fatal. It's best to get things like this checked out! If it is something as simple as a migraine, you will never know unless you test for it. Better to be safe than sorry!!!

Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

Hmm it seems very strange, id be getting her to a Dr asap.
if it is a Migraine there is not really a lot she can do, there are preventers (but in my experiance they have been no good) and medication that you take at the onset, which sometimes helps, other than that strong painkillers, quiet and time to recover is all she can do.

it's easily fixed in an outpatient procedure.
