The Rapture of the church is the event in which God removes all believers from the earth in order to make way for His righteous judgment to be poured out on the earth during the Tribulation period. The Rapture is described primarily in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:50-54. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 describes the Rapture as God resurrecting all believers who have died, giving them glorified bodies, and then departing the earth with those believers who were still alive, who have also been given glorified bodies. "For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever" (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
1 Corinthians 15:50-54 focuses on the instantaneous nature of the Rapture and on the glorified bodies we will receive. "Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed - in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed" (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). The Rapture is the glorious event we should all be longing for. We will finally be free from sin. We will be in God's presence forever. There is far too much debate over the meaning and scope of the Rapture. This is not God’s intent. Rather, in regards to the Rapture, God wants us to “encourage each other with these words.”

The Rapture is the very silly idea that people will float up into the sky when Jesus returns. No one has ever been able to tell me why they are floating up into the sky, or how high they will float, or where they are all headed.
I also wonder: let's say the Rapture is a real event. If someone is driving, will s/he bang her/his head on the car ceiling? Will the power of God rip that person out of the car like squeezing a grape? That would hurt. Also, what about multi-story buildings? Will people on floor 1 break through all of the floors above them all the way up to the top floor and then break through the ceiling? That would hurt a hell of a lot, especially if it were a particularly tall building.

The rapture as taught today is more like false teaching. They say that you will be ruptured before that Antichrist shows up on the scene but the bible says we will See him and be tested and Then at The 7th trump and the return of Jesus we will all be changed in the twinkling of an eye, not before but at the 7th trump,.read Thessalonians1 and 2, look at the verse in 2 about the lawless one. You will see him, that tells me we are still here! and Mathew 24.

The idea of Rapture comes from this woman who had this dream or vision seeing seeing Jesus Christ coming to earth to gather his people, and then return again for the battle of Armageddon to take place and the people who survive all the torment of that Jesus will reveal himself to them and they will go back with him to heaven or stay on the now perfect earth. John who Revalation never speaks of this nor any other apostles of Christ. The Bible actually speaks of followers of Christ going threw the torment.

This is an event taught by some Christian groups wherein the righteous are "caught up" by God, thus marking the beginning of the time of Tribulation. These views are not universally held by all Christian groups.

some - especially baptists, it seems, believe that reue believers will not be a part of God's punishment of non believers here on Earth, b/c of some biblical conjecture. that they will all be 'swept away' off of the planet.
I think that this is silly, since the bible does not clearly state this. If it happens, ok, but I'm not betting on it.
