You know, I've lived overseas for several years now and I've really never felt safer. Guns are illegal except maybe for hunting in Britain and other places. Nobody really worries about getting killed even when they're walking down an alley in the middle of the night. It's kind of reassuring, really.

Whenever I go back to the States I start seeing shootings on the news all the time and have to be a little more careful about what I'm up to.

gun laws should be tightened no doubt about that. the problem is, the prisons are so over crowded they have to let some of them out. not that i think prison helps, in my experience they come out a lot worse than when they went in.

as for stop and search... no, no and no again. this causes culture wars and makes the class differences in a particular society even more evident.

for example:
you look like a pothead... you must be carrying weed
you are muslim... you must be carrying a bomb
you are black... you must be carrying a gun

these assumptions will make everyone who isn't a white middle class male (in my experience) hate the police. and chaos continues.
