Why are so many evangelical Christian leaders caught in scandals?

This is going to be tough choosing a Best Answer... a LOT of very good answers.

I think it's because when you go around telling so many people that they are living "sinful" lives, and claim that you know how to live your life better than them, when you're exposed as a hypocrite, it makes a bigger splash.

Theres not many who tell people how they should live more than Evangelicals do. So when they're exposed, they really get it.

Oh Really? I don't think its all that many when you compare them to Sports figures and Politicians and teachers etc. Actually I can think of only 4 rr 5 in the last 20 years. You can name 4 or 5 Sports figures, or Politicians, or teachers almost every month.

The Apostle Paul spoke of being tempted with thinking of himself more highly than he should - this was the "thorn" in his side. He was often tempted by Satan to act as the pretentious "Super Preachers" who made a show of things, placing themselves on pedestals.

He fought against it and prayed hard. His own conviction kept him honest.

Unfortunately today we see today's "super preachers" giving into not only the ego trip that can easily consume even the secular, but they give into the fleshly desires as well - greed, lust, deception, vanity.., you name it.

Fortunately there are some Apostle Pauls out there that fight the temptation. Some will slip along the way, but the Holy Spirit will bring them back on the right track - while others will resist the Holy Spirit and cling to the power they see in their positions. These latter group will manipulate trusting people to their own desires - much like you see of Tv preachers like Benny Hinn and others.

Use some rigorous analysis and tell us how many Christian leaders exist in, say, the U.S. Then tell us how many of this population of leaders have been caught in scandals. Then calculate the percentage and let us know how you justify the use of the word "many" in your question.

Actually its the complete opposite. The thing is when it comes to journalism, stories like this sell more papers because the act doesn't fit the profile of the person. Just this last year 3+ teachers were in the headlines because they slept with a student. So are we to assume all teachers are sleeping with their students? IWe expect more from these humans, but they are still human.

People make mistakes. I am not taking up for their scandal actions but don't tell me you have never mad a mistake. You will make mistakes often but they probably won't end up on national television will they?

Because God moves in mysterious ways and also because they enjoy having some fun with prostitutes. Probably they are preaching the gospel to the male and female prostitute that they enjoy hanginf out with and some unholy people get the wrong idea.
