Ah! Love.

The least understood if not the misunderstood of all human emotions.

Like all the rest of the human emotions even love is generated below the threshold of consciousness i.e. the subconscious, ergo some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not.
Since love cannot be understood consciously you have to keep an open mind and understand the process, which will inevitably make it appear less romantic because of all the scientific jargon in my answer.
But I'm ready to re-educate myself.

Now, What is love? How do you define love?
Dictionary definition:

Love
noun

# A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.
# A feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair; the emotion of sex and romance.

Classic cinematic view: You are ready to die and go through all the misery and suffering for your love.

Which sometimes is true and sometimes is not.

Although the above might be sometimes true but usually the process of falling in love is not all that kind and sparing.

Like men go for looks and women go for *ahem* money.
(Which also tends to be the second part of the question)
Did I disturb the hornets nest? I know people will be denying , but denial is the most predictable of all human responses.
Please give me time to clarify my point lovely ladies.
I know men can sometimes fall in love with a less good looking lady similarly women can go for a less financially secured guy.

But first you have to understand how and why we fall in love.

Why men go for looks?

The ultimate purpose of life is survival and the penultimate purpose of life is replication.

When a women is good looking, has a good physique (waist hip ratio of 0.7:1) then this indicates youthfulness.
That is the girl can still bear a child (fulfil the penultimate purpose) as after 45 she won't be able to bear child.
Also a good looking women indicates that she is healthy and can give rise to a healthy child.
As lesser looks (skin colour, marks, asymmetry, skewed waist to hip ratio) indicates unhealthy and perhaps weak genes.
Also a less youthful lady has an elevated probability of giving rise to an unhealthy child. Many genetic syndromes increase with age of the mother.
Therefore men go for looks so that "she" can give rise to a healthy child and fulfil her purpose.

Why women go for health and money?

Money translates to security.
If the father is less secure (in humans is less rich) then the child and the mother might not get the desired condition to sustain a healthy life.
That is the child will become weak and will then have a less sexual value when his time come for mating.
Of course you may say that is not the thing today, but remember things were such till a few hundred years back.
Thais is why all this information is coded in our genes to have a better chance of having a healthy child and thus sustain life.

And once love has casted its spell then even after things change later the person will still be loved (usually)

You both need to work on your own marriages .. seek counseling. It will be wrong and cause huge emotional turmoil if you both pursue anything before your relationships with your marriages have not ended. If you think its true love with each other and not the person you married, then it can wait until the moment you are both divorced. Those who marry for money are no different from prostitutes, man or woman. I'm sure they make hell of a family and their children don't get to learn any values from their parents because they don't possess them in the first place. It is far better to marry someone you love and make a loving family based on values.
Yes love exists. All my good friends fell naturally in love and married.

bank balance is a necessity, but, that alone is not the criteria. good background, education, clean habits r also a must. marry and love ur spouse, that makes a healthy relationship.

My wife never asked me how much I earned before we got married. Nor did my in-laws ever inquire about it. Even though it was an arranged marriage. We me cose each other and done. No more questions. To this date both of us are happy about the fact that we could find each other...

When I was married my bank balance was nil.
In India people don't fall in love then marry. They marry first and then fall in love.
Society yet to accept such culture that you fall in love then marry.
I found if someone fall in love and then marry , chances of divorce is high.Because girls are hardly have chances to choose someone, take percentage of girls in India who earn themselves.
