Unless you're independently wealthy, if you don't work it looks like you're lazy and looking for a guy who will just support you. That's not what most guys are looking for in a woman.

Men who earn a lot of money and are traditional want women who are educated and who work for awhile. But once thye are engaged and then married it is a status thing for the woman to stop working full time. Either volunteer or work part time.

I think a man would rather date a woman who works. But then when he marries her, he would rather her stay at home, to do the boring housework and to look after his every needs!!!

Don't listen to all those so-called self-help books who tell you otherwise. Men appreciate women with ambition and self-sufficiency. They don't appreciate a woman who thinks her job is just a stepping stone on the way to marriage.
