It means to interact with one another as friends and fellow followers or believers. To support and lift one another up by sharing the good things that God is doing. To encourage one another.

The word fellowship in the Bible is derived from the Greek word Koinonia. This is derived from the word koinos, which means common, as something you have in common with another. So the word fellowship means having a common share in something with others. The Christian ordinance of communion is this same word koinonia, as it indicates having a common share in the Body and Blood of Christ and having a common share of the benefits of His atoning sacrifice. The picture is somewhat diminished because of the custom of having pre-broken bread and separate cups. At the last supper a common loaf was passed, a piece broken off, and then passed to the next person. A common cup was also passed around. The word is also used in the New Testament of contributing financially to the cause of the Gospel or to offer financial assistance to other members or churches in the Body of Christ. In II Corinthians 13:14 Paul's benediction is "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." This to me is the most precious fellowship, having a common share in the very life of God one with another. Knowing that the same Spirit who indwells me and comforts and instructs and gives me a love for the brethren is also dwelling in my fellow believers.
