I personally think overzealous, but well intentioned, literalist creationist put up such a giant barrier that many will never even seriously consider Christianity.

Televangelist and hypocrites are up there too.

What do you think causes the greatest barriers? Belief in miracles we haven’t seen? What is your opinion?

Pride. (Was Lucifer's sin also). With pride, people want control over their own lives, unwilling to let go and let God. They don't want to let God in the driver's seat of their lives. Handle life with prayer seems weak to them as they want to handle life themselves. They want to intellectually understand God and His ways, but the bible says His thoughts are not our thoughts, nor His ways, our ways. He is FAR beyond human understanding, so people need to stop bringing Him down to our human level and have faith and glorify the Lord ABOVE.

The biggest barrier, for anyone who is willing to do a little research, is quite frankly...the bible.

The bible is supposed to be the "inspired word of god", and correct on all counts. With a bit of research though, one discovers that its historically and scientifically inaccurate.

With further reading and study, one can learn that the bible itself had an editting committee that voted on which books to keep and get rid of. The gospels have been proven to be written well after the deaths of the men they are attributed to, and the scholar most recognized as being the first to write (outside of the bible) about Jesus, was sponsored by a bishop who advocated lies to keep the church in power.

I thought it was the twin lying. Denial and lying are big. Denial from weakness lying to your self. Lying to others for some advantage.

But I am sure it is usurping the authority of God. The use of perfection in logic where you are an imperfect being. When you play God this is addicting and difficult to rediscover the humility you need to seek God and discover your own humanity. What can be done with a Christian that has gone so far as to judge another person's soul? They have made them selves equal to Jesus thinking they are filling His office. But this sin is very common in small things too.

That to belive that we can be loved so much, and forgiven of so much without any lingering feelings, because people alwasy hold a grude. Also that we will be judged on what we have made of this life. That there will be an end, and a judgment. People seem to not accept that. Or that there is something stronger than them.

yes all that...but also the fact that the church or most "true" Christians will not even consider evolution even though it stares them blatantly in the face they still choose not to accept it. It boggles my mind. just b/c u accept the evolutionary theory doesn' mean u can believe in a higher power.

I think it's the stupidity that surrounds these ppl is enough for me not want to associate with these type of ppl. The worst thing is that most of these ppl are suppose to be the intellectuals of our given communities....and all i see are mindless sheep.

there are a number of differences between Muslims and Christians , in all threat too many to show right here on Y!As . yet I could say , as a Muslim I have not got any situation with Christians in any respect or Jews or Buddhism or Atheists Agnostics Creationist or the different concept as long as they do no longer intervene with my faith or attempt to humiliate my Prophet or Holy e book in any way conceivable . regrettably , they do consistently .

I feel people have trouble believing in God because of the way God treats mankind. If there was some love and decensy in the world maybe more people would be able to accept a devine plan. I personally believe in God, I just hate him.

biggest stumbling block is ego and pride, people want to be in control of there own lives thinking that they know best and better then God.

also, for the first person who answered and said... logic

Belief in something we can't see. A lot of non-believers are that way because they see no physical proof of an existance of a God or anything beyond our own world. It's like the saying "I'll believe it when I see it".

(John 20:29) Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Blessings and Love,
Sarah
