I have bad anxiety and panic attacks. Has anyone ever been hypnotized to try and get rid of their problem with this? If so, what was the outcome? Did it work or not?

Please, do NOT go on that, the hypnoses is so perilous than you cannot imagine, especially when you have a major medical problem like Panic disorder or GAD ( General anxiety disorder)!!!
What is your treatment? I suppose you take a SSRI antidepressant and a tranquilant ( when you needed or for short term), like Valium, Xanax..
It could work for not more than 10 to 15% of the patients with similar complaints, but I've observed aggravation in most of the cases, as an outcome.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

Do you know why you have anxiety/panic attacks etc? If you do, then that's half the battle won. A lot of the time it is due to lots of stress, usually it stems from ones upbringing etc and that is what needs to be sorted out. If that does not get sorted, then it just worse. Unfortunately.

I did try to get hypnotized for anxiety and panic attacks, but it did not work for me. But that doesn't mean it won't work for others.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

Hypnosis works best on those people who are highly suggestible, not those who are skeptical, highly self directed or cynical. Before going down that path, try the techniques to be found at www.relax7.com/7.php and there is a section on anxiety and panic attacks, and the breathing and mental focus methods to deal with them in the most recent blog of Shan Eris on "tackling depression" at www.myspace.com and also type those terms in separately in the bar on the myspace homepage. If you have a mental health professional willing to try hypnosis on you there is a chance it may work. Everyone is different. I have known hypnosis to help relax someone when they are tense, so in this way a hypnotic suggestion could help you in "panicky" situations. However, I would not just try to find a hypnotist who is willing to do this for you. Many people have the ability of do hypnosis but are not mental health professionals. I hope you are seeing someone now who is helping you with this. If so, please talk to that person about the possibillity of hypnosis.

I don't blame you for wanting to have these attacks stop, but sometimes the quick way does not work well. So, again, please only use a mental health professional if you decide to try hypnosis.
Good luck to you.
