I would call the Police , that is vandalism, let them make a report. Get a estimate on how much it will cost to repair damage to your car. I would sent the person a certified letter with copies of estimates, get at least two. Tell that person he need to contact you regarding the damage he did to your car and pay for it. Give him ten days to contact you. Have a return receipt of acceptance, certified mail. have card send back to you showing someone sign for it. Keep the recepits from the Post Office and that Card. If the Certified Letter comes back to you unopened, do not open it, leave it sealed, to show a judge you did sent it. Be sure to keep a copy of the letter you sent, it should match the one in the envelope. After ten days, if he has not responded , file against him in small claims court, you will win. Make him pay for the damage to your car. Anyone that is so childish as to jump on the hood of a car that belong to some one else , needs to pay for the damage. Let him get by with this now, he will do it again. You need to call the Police and make a report, take pictues of the damage and document who did it, where he did it, why he did it and how he did it, the damage to your car.

all the police are going to do is tell you they didn't see it, they can only file a report. you probably can file a small claim against him without that, but you would need to check with the clerk of court's office to see. personally, a small dent in my car is something I expect to happen somehow, some way,and though it would make me mad, i would not call the police. I would get a repair estimate and tell ask the guy to pay for it, because he should know it was unacceptable, but i wouldn't hold my breath.

Yes. Get a police report. Then get estimates of how much it will cost to repair. Then go to small claims court and sue him.

I might. It sounds a little scary. If it was my buddie and he was "playing around," I'd know it was no big deal. If it was some crazy guy who wasn't really my friend and who was trying to intimidate me or irritate me, I would definitely think about it. It's clearly vandalism and I might want restitution to be paid, so why not?

If he had no INTENT to damage your car, then there is no criminal matter for the police to handle. If he refuses to pay for the damage, you'll have to take him to small claims court to get the damages.

No. You take it to a repair shop and then ask him to pay the bill. If he refuses, you sue him in a small claims court.

No. Not police. This is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. Tell him to pay. If he doesn't you could sue him in small claims court.

I would ask him to repair it, if not you will have to report it to your insurance, if it is really small, then you may consider paying out of your pocket as opposed to paying a deductible that may be more and may increase your insurance.
