According to the christian faith, I know that it is a sin to tell a lie. However, are you continuing to sin as long as you let the person you lied to believe the lie? Is part of repentance admitting that you lied? Or if you simply ask forgiveness, everything is okay?

Forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession):
* Sinner prayes to God to make a good confession.
* Sinner confesses sin's out loud to Priest.
* Sinner then makes an "Act of Contrition". This is asking God to forgive and asking God to help the sinner turn away from sin in future. All sins (even one's you don't remember doing, or didn't know were sin's are forgiven).
* Priest will give sinner a "Penance" - action to help them align with God instead of wrongful ways. Penance is different each time- Different Priest will give differnt penances.

However, it's my belief that for the sinner to make a true "Act of contrition" they try and repair their wrong doings where possible. In your example, they're treat the person they've lied to like God, telling the person "I lied", and asking for forgivness & penance (what can I do to make it up to you?)

One beautiful thing about the Sacrament of Reconciliation is that it does teach us how to ask for forgiveness and how to give forgiveness by going to the merciful God first. Practice makes perfect, and many are scared of this Sacrement.

Repentence is turning away from a life of sin when you accept Jesus.

A lot of people think you have to repent for every sin you commit, but that's not even possible. No where in the Bible does it say to ask for forgiveness from God for every sin, but it does say to ask for forgiveness in a general sense.

It's good to confess your sin and ask God to forgive you when you realize you have sinned, but it shouldn't be your main priority. Your priority should be preventative, to try not to sin in the first place.

You should admit to yourself and to God that you sinned when lied. Telling the other person or not depends on the situation, but although it's good to tell them, it's not always necessary.

Once you have repented of this act and received forgiveness
you have received forgiveness of the sin but that does not negate the results of what has been done in regards to the other person's beliefs !! So, in order to correct this act in human terms one should be motivated to straighten out the misconduct with the person that has been lied to--- only then are you totally free of the act itself !!

Repentance as turning to God, particular. The conviction of the Holy Spirit brings us the certainty that we are incorrect, and God is right. So turning from some thing to some thing else is repentance (like a deliver leaving that is direction and in seek of a secure harbor because of the fact of a hurricane). A Christian can believe God for the main appropriate and non violent, risk-free place to be.

No I don't think you have to seek forgiveness from everyone you sinned against, because sins are really against God, not just mankind. If you steal something from someone, you may get away with it and not get caught, but God will still judge you. And yet, even if you got caught and served the punishment for thievery, your fault still remains with God and you must make amends. However if you did steal something from someone, and then repented, if it is possible you should repay the person and make amends.

Repentance includes not only turning away from sin but attempting to make right those wrongs done through the sin. Tell the truth.

If you are truly going to repent, you would need to tell the person you lied to that you lied. That may be difficult, and many of us may not do that, but we should. Probably better not to lie in the first place.

You have to go to the person you lied to and confess to them and tell them that you lied and set the record straight. Otherwise that lie will continue to be between you.
