You're kidding, right?
If not, I feel sorry for you. Next time you're wondering what you need a passport for, check a map of the United States first.

US Citizens only need a passport if you plan to travel outside the United States, including Mexico and Canada. You can travel to any of the 50 states without a passport, unless you are coming in from another country.

Actually, it's not a bad question (to the sarcastic remark). I am an American who used to live in Europe. Most people outside of the US who do a lot of traveling have a passport. We are one of the few civilized countries where people are too lazy or too cheap to get one.

If you are traveling within the US/Puerto Rico/ or US territories and commonwealths, you do not need a passport.

In 2007, you will need a passport to ravel outside of the US by air. 2007/2008 you will also need a passport to travel by land outside of the US to mexico and Canada.

As Americans and as individuals, we should have passports anyways. A state ID is only valid identification in most instances. A passport is good in all. Plus is a cool way to keep a log of all your travels. Soo... get one.
