Faith in God is a result of thought , faith is because we have not seen God but we understand in our minds the existence of such a one.So it is not a result of not thinking, but only of not seeing God, but we do use many things, in part based on sight or other experiences, intellectual or sensual(sight, sound, smell, taste, touch) that lead the mind in its operations to the conclusion not that things do not have a maker, but that they do. In this everyone agrees, and so we see that reason and experience lead all men to the conclusion that there is a maker and it is erroneous to say that belief in God is irrational. Reason naturally leads to the conclusion there is a cause, there is a reason(implying intelligent design), there is a maker. No one can argue with this unless ignorant of the truth and facts of reason and history. The debate which has been misconstrued is about what the maker is, for a maker , a reason, a cause are equally necessary
The evolutionist or God denier, will say that the maker or makers are atoms, or little organisms or bacterias built up upon one another coming into unison to create a greater whole, more than the sum of its parts, so although they deny biblical creation, they do believe in cause, makerand reason for it,in this case atoms .The reason may be the physical behavior of the components that do it, but still it is a reason

Neuro-biology is not the answer, it is a condition but not the reason, the reason is far above and beyond it. That is like Socrates reason for being in prison ready to die, in the Crito, it was not because his bag of bones, sinews and muscles had carried him there, they were conditions for it but not the reaoson.

This is beside the point but just to prove how biased and profoundly unable you are to hear what is really being saidf and asked, I point out, I did not mention Christianity but some here are just reacting and arguing in their own heads and they are the true irrational, prejudicial and hateful ones, filled with rage and ugliness.

Faith is not a deliberate abjuration of knowledge or logic, you only wish it was.

Faith is a function of learning. Everyone has some, and the more we know, the more our faith grows. Religion is actually only one way of expressing faith among many.

Partially agree.

Faith may have been a reasoned conclusion in primitive times, but more often than not it is the result of tradition.

Primitive man didn't know that fire is the result of combustion, fueled by oxygen, and caused by a spark; he reasoned, with his limited knowledge, that a higher being must have given it to him.

Primitive man didn't know that rain was caused by the condensation of moisture, held in the atmosphere; he reasoned that a higher being must cause it.

Primitive man didn't understand that his world was created by a cosmic event, so he reasoned that a higher being must have created it.

When man discovered/created the tools to find the answers to the mysteries of life, this reasoning became outdated. Faith today is the result of tradition, rationalization (which is different than reason) and, in some cases, fear. With all of the information available today concerning the origins of the universe and life, to believe otherwise is not using reason.

When you ask the question, "where do we come from", there is a wealth of scientific evidence (found in the real world) to support abiogenesis and evolution; while faith depends on man made books to support its claim. To disregard the verifible evidence, is not "reasoning", its following tradition and rationalizing.

Many people need to have a creator, because the acceptance that life itself is just a great cosmic accident is unfathomable to them...they need to have a purpose. Some people cannot grasp that there is nothing outside of life, so they need to have an afterlife in order to do away with "nothingness". These are examples of faith being the opposite of fear.

You claim the "evolutionists" or "god deniers" say that atoms are the maker. You are wrong here. Science has proven that every single thing is made of atoms...not made by atoms. There is a huge difference. The atom (as well as the sub atomic particle) is the building block, not the creator.

Disagree: faith is a lack of reason. Faith is a desire for understanding, without doing the research necessary to acquire it. Of course, in olden days, the necessary tools (both intellectual and mechanical) to do such research were not available, so faith was all there was. But that is not true now. Since faith is the deliberate abjuration of logic, which is the only thing that distinguishes H. sapiens from animals, it is the ultimate evil: what could be worse than to intentionally give up your humanity?

Scientist are not any further all atheists, and they don't meddle with religions. that is the non secular believers who insist on perverting technology, or ignoring some thing that conflicts with their beliefs. The believers of each and every faith say they are the in trouble-free terms thanks to God, and condemn another faith for being diverse. Even were the completed international to undertake an similar faith there would nonetheless be zealots condemning someone who did not in good structure their ideal of piety. prepared faith is about potential. no matter if that is the Pope in Rome, the evangelical television preacher, or the Ayatollah in Iran they declare divine awareness, and they call for obedience. i imagine those who pray the loudest, and whinge the most have the least faith. they have created their international on faith in myths, and some thing that undermines those myths undermines their faith. A rational individual knows we've more beneficial expertise now than we did 100 years in the past. basically inspect technologies. Genesis is how the Hebrews defined the position each and everything got here from 5000 years in the past? each and every lifestyle has it personal creation myth. Why are all of them incorrect, and your myths actual? I say that is because your faith isn't solid sufficient to bear the shortcoming of your myths.

No

People do not come to faith through reason, they come to faith through being raised in faith. They are taught that their feelings of the numinous are signs from god rather than neurochemical reactions. They are pressured by their parents and peers. Ultimately they are threatened with torture if they don't believe. Eventually some may come to think that it is a rational decision but it is not.

Your position would be much stronger if you had not also attacked evolution. Many persons of faith accept that rational people viewing the evidence objectively should and do believe that the universe has been around for billions of years and that life on Earth evolved from simpler forms to more complex forms. There are those who see the hand of god in evolution and those who don't. But those who deny the evidence cannot lay claim to any rationality.

You are deluded. It is probably not your fault, you were probably raised that way. Perhaps someday your eyes will be opened.

I understand your exercise in futility but faith is a gift from God. Anyone can have it if they ask with the mind of truth and a willing heart. It really is that simple, it is the religions of man which have clouded the reasons and caused the debates of today.

Disagree.
Faith is exactly that. The faith that you believe that what is written is true.If you apply reason to the bible you can only come to the conclusion that it is not true.
Reason and logic would tell you that.
By the way, there is no such thing as an evolutionist

Read "Why We Believe What We Believe,' by Andrew Newberg. It's a wonderful book about the neuro-biology of faith.

The creator/created argument isn't valid.
You only point to things that we know are created. The fact that humans have created watches and houses and shoes does not logically point to any "god" having created the universe.
Sorry.

When did you see, touch, taste, smell or hear god? And have you read the bible? The inconsistancies found within it should prove to anyone capable of rational thought that something isn't right with christianity.
