I love them. Havent read them all yet.

Witfully written, strong stories showcasing triumph of good over evil. Great morals to the stories for young ones to learn.

By the time kids are old enough to read these they should be able to tell truth from fiction and not expect to be getting an owl to invite them to hogwarts. I dont get all the controversy, adn am glad to see kids reading them.

Love the quote - which I cant look up now as the book are in my sons room - near the end of teh sorcers stone that says that the old couple who were kept immortal were actually relieved to be coming to face death with the destruction of the stone. something like immortality and money are the things that are most desired by people but that they arent all they are supposed to be.

I have read the entire series and seen the movies. I know there are some people who object to the books because of the "witchcraft" theme. In answer to folks who feel that way, I can only say, read the books yourself with an open mind.

When I was in grade school, my mother warned me not to read the Narnia Chronicles because they had magic in them. However, after she read them, she realized that the magic element was not subversive in the least.

My point is that many of the folks who decry Harry Potter have also not read the books.

Anyone who has taught their children to follow and respect God should not be afraid that Harry Potter will corrupt their children. Harry Potter will not persuade anyone to experiment with witchcraft. The witchcraft in the stories is simply a literary device, not an attempt to convert anyone to pagan practices.

To the contrary, the main theme of the books is that we are all responsible for the choices we make, regardless of what goes on around us. Other themes include the importance of personal responsibity and owning up to and learning from your mistakes.

I do agree that the stories are not for younger readers. I would recommend them for 12 and up. Even adults will not catch everything the first time through.

We love them. We have pre-ordered book #7 and have plans to see the 5th movie in July. I'm 20 weeks pregnant and the book and movie come out about a week or two after the baby is due, I'm guessing I deliver late...lol. I think that the books are really great. They are very deep and it is easy to take a lot from them even after many readings. The first book is an introduction and the characters are not as complex, this is great because young children can understand them. As you read the books to the kids, the kids' understanding of the complexities of human emotion, motive, and character grows as the characters grow in complexity. Like all fairy tales, Harry Potter gives kids a chance to play with, feel and understand things like hatred, death, jealousy, etc in a third-person and safe setting (their parents lap). These kids then grow up with a deeper understanding of their fellow man and have a toolkit to deal with people's emotions.

I have and I enjoyed it. I know many Christians who are dead against it but I look at it purely as a work of fiction. I could see how perhaps it could be a bad influence on some people especially impressionable children but I have allowed my children to see the movies with my supervision and have had no problems. They are very strong in their faith and it had no impact on that.

The first couple were okay, but they started to get a little stale around book four, not to mention really dark for books meant to be read by children.
