Suspension of disbelief, it's like actively choosing to believe in something you know isn't true simply because you really want to believe it.

What does this question mean? How exactly could you impose a state of mind on someone? We all are in our own heads. So I'm not sure how you could make anyone suspend any beliefs or disbeliefs they might have towards a given proposition.

You could ask someone to suspend their disbelief about extraterrestrial life (for example) and claim that you were abducted by aliens...but you can't actually make someone suspend how incredulous they get. All you can do is hope they hear you out.

Suspension of disbelief is a tool for those who think. It allows them to examine ideas and events through different lenses. Your simple perception of it needs a little deepening. Try it. Unless of course you are committed to a belief yourself, perhaps one that is not supported by the truth. You afraid? You should be. If you don't want the truth no matter what it may turn out to be there is a dark place set aside for you well suited for the sense of self worth and remorse you will experience once everything shakes out.

could you give an example?

I know you suspend disbelief in the Movies.. why would anyone want to impose it on another..hopefully for enjoying the movie that other person is suspending disbelief on his/her own. If not their lack of enjoyment is on them not me.

Like joining a religion just to belong to the society that you were unlucky or lucky enough to be born into, and suspending your true beliefs in order to join into that society.. Now is that society at fault for imposing its values onto you? And if it is, is it also to blame, for the insanity that results from trying to live with the beliefs of that society even though your intellect screams out at the insanities of their beliefs? I hate the imposition but must see the value of the society. Yes it is wrong and yes it appears to be a necessary evil.

Why would anyone believe in something they don't believe in? Then, in turn, impose it on someone else? A little defeatist.

It is impossible to believe in something that you know is not true. You may pretend that it is true, but as long as you know it's not true you will never believe it.

You should question everything and challenge others to question everthing too. That is the only way to gain a sure knowledge.
