No, having a girlfriend is part of growing up. The relationships don't need to be serious. But, boys as well as girl should date when they are old enough and mature enough to do so.

Plus, in today's society, people are going to school for much longer and later in life. What if a guy is in grad school and living with his parent's at 22. He should definitely have some experience with dating by that age.

Unless they plan to lavish their girlfriends with loads of expensive stuff, then no. But hey, so many answer actually depends on the situation at hand. Does dependence means only financially? Because there are times when one could is still dependent on parents for other things such as judgment, etc and this could hurt a prospective relationship. Or is the planned relationship a serious one whereby maturity and age of a person comes into play. But if you mean the normal teen-age stuff, then my first sentence stands.

It totally depends on how open your parents are. While in high school, my parents told me that if I dated, I would be raped, and they still tell my brothers, who are both out of the house and on their own, that they will get someone pregnant or get a disease if they date. So...totally depends on your parents.!

No I think Dating is an important part of growing up. One must learn how to relate with the opposite sex. other wise they will be complete dorks. Incapable of compassion for the other.

Well, I would say yes, just because what if they're 2 stupid people and the girl gets pregnant....Then they might have to live with his parents.....Bad idea.....
