Hands down this is the one plug-in I use day in and day out! It will get your color balance in the ballpark in just one or two clicks and will save a ton of "messing around " time.

This is the second plug-in you should have. NOBODY understands sharpening and output resolutions, and this is the best sharpening tool out there. It will improve your final product tremendously. (it is a little pricey..)

Someone once compared Photoshop Plugins to garlic. When used to enhance or to season, garlic is a great seasoning. However, if used too much it becomes overpowering so that's all you tasted. Plugins are exactly the same - only use them to enhance the photo. I've listed some of the more popular plugins below (* denotes one i use a lot)
Good Novelty Plugins
Alienskin Xenofx (www.alienskin.com)
Alienskin Eyecandy (www.alienskin.com)
AutoFX Dreamsuite (www.autofx.com)
*Extensis Photoframe (www.extensis.com)
Kai's Power Tools (www.corel.com)
Good Color Correction Programs
* Nik Color Efex Pro (www.niksoftware.com)
* Alienskin Exposure (www.alienskin.com)
* AutoFX Mystical Lighting (www.autofx.com)
AutoFX Tint, Tone & Color (www.autofx.com)
Good Retouching Plugins
Alienskin Image Doctor (www.alienskin.com)
Nik Sharpener Pro (www.niksoftware.com)
Corel Knockout (www.corel.com)
*Digital Gem (www.kodak.com)
There are tons of plugins out there that do everything and anything you want them to - also check out the Adobe Photoshop store where you can search for plugins by product

Photoshop is a very comprehensive photo editing program in its own right. Plug-ins just add a few bells and whistles, some good, some not so good. My advice would be to learn to use Photoshop itself first, before thinking about adding plug-ins.

PhotoShop is a sophisticated program which requires
some weeks of training to utilise it propersly.
There are some simple freewares which even a school child
can learn to use:
(1) irfanview.com
(2) www.xnview.com
(3) www.FastStoneServer.com
