Be sure that the papaya is ripe (soft when you press it) before cutting it in half, scooping out and discarding the seeds and eating the flesh, just like you would a grapefruit. You can also peel and dice the papaya.

the problem with Papaya is that in an unripe state the Papaya contains high concentrations of a Latex, this latex concentration reduces upon ripening and once completely ripe has almost no latex left. The Papaya latex's main constitiuants are papain and chymopapain which have teratogenic (abnormalities of physiological development) and abortifacient (Can induce an abortion) effects . It does this by increasing the chances of uterine contractions as the papain acts like prostaglandin and oxytocin which are known to put a mothers body into labour and hence an adverse effect on the babies and mothers health. The Latex can also cause marked oedema and haemorrhagic placentas which are bleeding and hemorrhaging from the edge of the placenta, this can result in severe complications in pregnancy and normally an early delivery. To sum up is is advised that women in pregnency do NOT eat raw papaya for the added risk of complications, however it is perfectly safe for them to eat a fully ripened Papaya as the concentrations of Papaya Latex is so small.

Why juice it when you can eat it as slices or small cubes? In juicing esp. if filtration is involved, you may lose some fiber. Skin is to be removed in any case. If the fruit is medium firm, you can remove the skin using any knife. If it is too soft, first cut the fruit into small pieces and then remove the fruit pulp into a bowl. Depending upon its sweetness, you can eat it as it is or with a little sugar added. Refrigeration helps since it tastes better when slightly cooled.
Papaya is not supposed to be eaten by pregnant women.

Cut into vertical slices. (The slice should be longer than it is wide)
Then peel the slice(remove the green/yellow rind). On the inside, there should also be a thin layer that has some seeds attached to it. Remove this layer with a regular knife. Now you have the fruit. Cut into bite size pieces and enjoy. Papaya with black pepper also tastes nice!

I usually cut the papaya in half first. Then I sliced it and lay it down sideways with the flesh and seeds facing up. I slice off the skin, then use a spoon to remove the seeds in the centre. After that, I'll cut up the orange flesh, put them in a bowl and refrigerate.
I usually eat them raw or blend with milk and syrup to make a papaya milkshake.
Yummy!!!

peel and chew the inside. I think it tastes a lot different from the juice, but it's still yummy.
