I am waiting for the doc. to call now but I am starting to get worried.
He is a little congested
but no other signs of being sick
he seems to cry in pain when he lays on his back
PLEASE HELP!

he should be alright. you only worry if its over 100. but you should see a doctor if he is congested. but no worries he is okay. good luck and i hope he feels better. i dont like to see babies cry

That seems like a normal temp, all the way up to 98.5 If you call the doc w/a rectal temp of 98.9 even, he/she may not do much.
Prop him up a bit when you put him on his back, if he is congested, laying him flat down could be hurting his head/sinuses.
Rub his belly, it could also be painful gas. If you can, sit w/him and have him sit forward while supporting his head or lay on his belly across your lap, the pressure might help him.

JUST KEEP A WATCH ON HIM DO NOT LET IT GET OVER 98.6 IF IT DOES GO TO THE ER ASAP I AM NOT TRYING TO SCARE YOU REALLY I AM NOT BUT HIS HEALTH IS MORE IMPORTANT HE MIGHT BE COMING DOWN WITH THE FLU ARE A COLD TAKE CARE GOOD LUCK GOD BLESS

No, babies temperatures fluctuate a lot unless it goes over 100 then I would advice you to call your doctor.
