Skin didn't grow on top, that is just a scab. Cut away the gauze, the skin will grow in underneath and the part of the gauze within the scab will come off when the scab does.

Your skin didn't grow OVER the gauze over night. I'm guessing that you had the gauze fairly tight and it has pressed the tissue in your wound through the gauze (especially with it only being one layer of gauze) and it scabbed over. Just peel it off, and get it dressed properly. You'll want to put clean, non-adhesive pading on the wound (we use "Telfa" pads in the ER, just like the pad on a band-aid) with some neosporin on it, then put multiple layers of gauze on it, but don't get it too tight. Watch for redness, swelling, funny colors, and red streaks (signs of infection). Push come to shove, have a professional look at it.

get a q-tip and some petroleum jelly or even vegetable oil, anything greasy. Start at the edge and work the stuff under the edge as you slowly pull the gauze off

Soak your leg in warm water, and it will loosen the scab right off so you can take the gauze off. don't forget to put ointment between the gauze and your sore.

Get it really soaked with hydrogen peroxide or water if that's all you got and it should peel off really easy...get it really wet!!!then clean it...no more gauze..let the air dry it out!!!

Stop your panic. Just soak it in warm water and it will come off easily.

If you take your shower, it will come off on it's own.
