You should get in the way. At the very least, you should be offering them a safe place to get together. You can also help your sister's friend to do some research on alcoholism and on every part of AA. Finding the right support group will help this child greatly.

If this girl's father is around, you might try talking with him, or try explaining all of this to your parents and ask them for help in talking with him and in helping the mother to get help for herself.

It's not up to anyone here, or up to you, to tell if this woman is an alcoholic or not. But she almost certainly is abusing alcohol, and she needs help.

You aren't clear here, you are saying the mother is drinking? Not the sisters friend that is 10, right? If her mother drinks and becomes drunk every weekend, she has a real problem. Especially if she is yelling at her daughter, she is not being responsible. Someone needs to talk to this mom, she may be going through some hard times. Is your mom able to talk to her?

children of an alcoholic often end up alcoholics themselves if her mom keeps this up around her daughter who hates what her mother does eventually the girl is going to rebel just to cope with her mothers actions i dont know if she is an alcoholic typicaly an alcoholic drinks a little more often that though 2 or three times a week is excessive and to do it thoughtlessly around her daughter is not right i would say mom is on a path to destruction and is going to bring her daughter down with her and i dont recomend letting your little sis hang out a her friends house parents like that will sometimes allow their young children to drink with them

Anyone who can't control themselves in front of their children because of alcohol is an alcoholic. This little girl needs to be put in a safe place where she doesn't suffer and doesn't learn her mother's habits. I know its hard to do but you need to alert authorities and get her out of the situation. Children will continue the cycle of abuse. She will follow in her mother's footsteps if she isn't taught that it is wrong.
